Extended Writing Update

I'm pretty proud of this weekend's work, despite it being less than usual. Amidst the ongoing health scare thing, I managed to get a decent bit of Chapter 9's prep for the alpha sorted out, and tweak a few things that desperately needed it. We're going into the base, as you know if you've played the alpha, and there's so much in there that's gone through revision after revision until I landed on something approximating a playable chapter.

The thing that really made this chapter such a bear is that I tried introducing too much variety. First it was the idea of giving MC two plot-routes to follow in the form of the wilds/Fey angle vs the base/human angle. Then it was okay fine I'll just make each route wildly different but still within the base. That led to the problem of giving wildly different impressions of the base/plot. And then when I took a zoomed-out look at it I finally realized that there already was a ton of variety in each route and it came, duh, from the different teammates. Wren is a very different person to be doing this mission with than Rin, for example. The vibe is just night and day.

With that in mind, I turned to converging the routes a little more, in the effort to remedy the problems above. It's not finished by any means, but now we get MC covering the same core moments with each route and I'm a lot more confident that I'm writing a coherent story again.

I don't know if it's the break we've been given or the unspoken anticipation of tomorrow's danger, but it feels good to be held, even if it's just for a moment.

We trade stories of different constellations, and I find many of Dalusin's legends match Leas' own, as if the same stories were told from different perspectives.
