Extended Writing Update
Added 2024-04-08 00:11:44 +0000 UTCI mostly spent this weekend working on the next alpha update. Chapter 9's three routes are really starting to shape up better. They've been the bane of my existence for ages now, but I have to say there's an even bigger sense of accomplishment as I iron them out. And I learned a lot from it. Most specifically, I've come up with the following notes-to-self:
Don't write one branch that's too different from the others, it'll spiral out of control until it's so different that the chapter is unbalanced. Then I'll have to rewrite 30,000 words. Tears, defenestration of objects, sorrows, prayers, etc.
Before writing different branches, make a list of common information I want revealed in all branches, and how MC will discover it.
Pick 1-2 unique moments for each branch, but don't let them get so unique that different MCs have totally different impressions of what's going on (unless that's the intent, which I don't really foresee happening. That's more something I'd consider doing in the Fey minigame).
I'm hoping I'll have things tidy enough to include all of chapter 9's alpha in the next alpha update. I need to take a little time this week to work on the monthy extra, but I think it's doable. The beauty of the alpha is I can just leave a few notes in to indicate I'm still working on a scene - it's so freeing.
I'm hype for the extra too. It's going to be its own little story, in a notes-in-the-margins kind of way. I always loved those as a kid. I hope you enjoy it when it releases!
Here's this week's preview:

"Agent."
Oh, come on, I groan internally. I was so close! I turn to face the summons, and see [redacted name] standing with a man who's holding a tray piled high with food and drink.
