Development Update September 4th

Why hello there! It is time for another update.

First things first, itch.io is changing its hosting domain soon (within the next few weeks), which means after this change old save files that have been saved in the local storage of your browser won't work anymore. 

Make sure to export any safe files you would like to keep to your disk. If you've played the early access of chapter 4 you've probably already done that. This also affects any other twine-based interactive fiction games you might be following, so make sure to do the same for those.

Some other, more frustrating news: twine (which is the program I use to code Misplaced) was updated last week and a but caused me to lose a bit of progress. I save my writing in a document with multiple back-ups, so that wasn't an issue, but a bunch of my coding was undone. It's not that big of a set-back, but it's really, really annoying. As you can imagine, having to redo the code of a bunch of scenes wasn't fun, so it it took me a while to force myself through it.

That being said, I did make progress on chapter 5. It's somewhere around 14k words long now. I'm struggling a bit to account for all the different variables that chapter 4 created, especially when it comes to Maeve. Your character can either A) be on good terms with her and have agreed to meet her again, B) be on good terms with her but refuse to meet her again, C) be on bad terms with her and never want to see her again, D) be on neutral terms and hesitantly agree to meet her again. That's four different variations I have to take into account, not to mention everything else that's going on.

I know this is only going to get worse the further along in the story we'll be. No wonder so many Ifs get abandoned by their creators, you have no idea what you're getting into when you've only written a chapter or two. No worries though, my determination is as strong as always.

Aside from that, I've also begun working on the next short story. This one will be about Thianne (featuring Az'Lean). I'm really starting to enjoy developing the relationships between the ROs and not just to the MC. Makes them feel more like actual people. Makes it just that more heart-breaking when things eventually go south ;)
