Mood boards

I posted mood boards for all the characters on my tumblr yesterday, thought I might as well share them here too.

Behind the Scenes: The Premise

It doesn’t matter what medium you tell your story in, it lives and dies by the premise. An interesting premise elevates not only the setting, the plot and the characters, but also the themes of a story. The very first thing I came up with when thinking of this project was the premise.

Misplaced’s premise is simple: “There’s conflict between humans and fae. You are a changeling, smuggled into a human family. You grew up unaware of this, became a knight and finally the prince’s ...

Behind The Scenes - coming soon

I thank you all very much for participating in the poll. "Behind The Scenes" is very much in the lead and I doubt that'll change, so this is the new type of content I have decided to add. This isn't going to be a weekly or monthly thing, but rather something extra that I will put out whenever I have some extra time on my hands.

I have decided that the first "Behind The Scenes" post will be freely available for all members so you can get a taste, but subsequent ones will only be availabl...

Chapter 6 Bug Fix

Hello there, everyone! I have fixed a bug in chapter 6 that messed up Maeve's relationship stats. It (hopefully) works as intended now. I have attached the file below, as always just unzip it and execute the html file called "index".

I recommend replaying chapter 6 at some point before chapter 7 releases, otherwise you'll carry over the faulty relationship stats with Maeve into the next chapter, which will lead to even more problems later down the line.

If you notice any other bug...

Chapter 6 Release

It’s time to release chapter 6!

All of your old saves should still be working, but as always I can’t guarantee it. Remember, only save files on your local disk work, not those stored in your browser.

That said, I hope you enjoy this new version of the demo! To get access to it, all you have to do is download the file, unzip it, and double click the html file called index.

Have fun with the newest chapter and make sure to let me know if you come across an...

Chapter 6 Release: 20th of December

Good news everybody! I have just finished writing chapter 6. It turned out to be around 38k words, which I think is a decent enough length. I'll be able to finish proof reading and bug fixing in the next few days and then the chapter will be available for you to read next Wednesday, on the 20th of December.

I hope you're looking forward to it! I'll post a few more details about how it went and what comes next in the development update post on Monday.

Chapter 5 Release!

It is time to finally release chapter 5 in all of its glory!

One thing I have to say though: I did end up changing a few more things, and I have to warn you: There is a high likelyhood that your old save files aren't compatible with the new version. I apologise if that is the case, but it's simply something that can happen whenever I make changes to the base code. If you can't load your save file, you might just have to replay the earlier chapters. Again, sorry for that...

Chapter 5 Release on Nov. 4th

Why hello there! I have some great news for you: I have finished writing chapter 5 of Misplaced and am now in the process of bug-fixing and proof-reading (more details in the next development update). As such, I can announce when you'll be able to read it:

Chapter 5 of 'Misplaced' releases on Saturday, November 4th.

That's exactly one week from now. It'll be available only here on patreon for now. The public demo on itch.io will be updated to include chapter 4 a...

Development Update October 16th

Why hello there, time for another update post! I'll keep it short this time since there's not too much to say.

I have written around 40k words of chapter 5 and am nearing the final stretch of it. I think it might well turn out to be a bit less than the 60k words I anticipated, but it doesn't really matter. The chapter ends where it would be appropriate to end it, the word count is more just to keep track of progress. Just to give you some perspective, the entire story, as far as I have ...

Development Update October 2nd

Why hello there! I hope you are ready for some good news!

I'm not sure whether it's due to the colder temperatures or what, but my writing flow has been exceptional this past week. I've made a lot of progress and am now officially past the half-way point of chapter 5. I always get more motivated when the end of a chapter is in sight, so I'm hoping to keep this pace up.

Right now, we're somewhere around 32k words into the chapter, and I really don't think we'll exceed 60k by ...

Development Update September 18th

Why hello there! It is already time for another update post.

First off, let me remind you: itch.io is changing its hosting domain soon (within the next few weeks), which means after this change old save files that have been saved in the local storage of your browser won't work anymore.

Make sure to export any safe files you would like to keep to your disk. If you've played the early access of chapter 4 you've...

Poly Relationship?

Now that we have a few more members, I'd like to do a poll just to see what you all think. I've been asked a few times about implementing the option for a poly relationship. I'm not opposed to the idea, but it would mean a lot of extra work. That of course would mean a longer wait between updates. Do you think the trade off is worth it?

Would you like to see the option for a poly relationship?

Development Update August 21st

Why hello there! It’s time for the next development update, and this time it’ll be about the progress of chapter 5. Exciting, right?

I hope you have all been enjoying chapter 4. I’m happy with the way it turned out, mostly. It’s difficult to judge a chapter like that on its own, since a lot of what’s happening is still just build-up. Although you’ve been able to make some choices, you haven’t really gotten to see the consequences of them yet, right? That’s something that...

Misplaced Chapter 4 Release

I present to you: the updated demo, now including the entirety of chapter 4! Here's how you play it:

  • Download the file and unzip it
  • Double click the html file called index
  • Reminder: if you want to continue where you left off, you have to load a safe from your disk, saves stored in your browser won't work
  • Have fun and play the newest chapter
  • Come back here to complain about all the typos and bugs you found

I really hope that everythin...

Development Update August 7th

Big Announcement: Chapter 4 will be out on Patreon this Saturday (the 12th)!

Yes, that's right. I've finished writing chapter 4 and I am pretty much done with the editing and bug fixing too. Just a few more test runs to do and a few more typos to hunt down and then the chapter will be ready for you to enjoy! I am very happy with the way it turned out and I hope you'll enjoy the direction the story is headed in.

Chapter 4 Sneak Peek

Next time on Misplaced:

Between attending long meetings that stretch for a candle’s worth of time, participating in all sorts of courtly goings-ons, in which every noble demands exceedingly ridiculous amounts of Az’Lean’s time, and lots and lots of combat training with the prince that leaves you exhausted, there are a other small things that quickly begin to pile up and often have you busy until late into the evening.

Living in your new room, being around Az’Lea...

Development Update July 24th

Why hello there! It's time for another update post and I have some good news for you: I am almost finished with writing chapter 4! There's only a handful of scenes left, maybe around 10k words in total. I'll still have to do a bunch of proof reading and stuff like that, but the next demo update is not too far off.

With that being said, I also thought about adding a new perk for patreon members in the form of a sneak peek. I think it might be interesting to take a few out of concept snip...

Map of Gaiapeia

Here's a look at the geography of Gaiapeia. As you can see, the human kingdom itself occupies the inner half of the continent, while the fae live in the surrounding lands. The kingdom is divided into 26 territories plus the capital. There are four rivers, all of them running through the capital. There is only one port from which ships can leave - the rest of the coast is controlled by the fae.

Development Update July 10th

Why hello there! It's time for another update post, though I do have to apologise in advance - this one is a bit shorter than usual. It kind of sucks but I just couldn't get a lot of writing done these past two weeks.

It's gotten really hot and humid, and since I don't have any air conditioning in my apartment, it's kind of hard to focus during the day. I did some writing in my uni's library, but it's exam season so that place is really packed. In the end I just settled on doing whateve...

Development Update June 26th

Why hello there! A new update post already? How time flies! It feels like only yesterday that I released the first demo, but it’s already been over a month. And what a fulfilling month it’s been, I’m honestly having a lot of fun working on this and reading people’s feedback.

I also want to thank you once again for your continued support! There’s always the worry that patrons only stick around for a month if they aren’t satisfied but I hope you’re happy with the content you...

Gaiapeian Calendar

Here's a little look at what the year in Gaiapeia looks like. The design isn't final, this is mostly just a graph to visualise it better.

Interesting things to note: there's 13 months with 29 days each, and winter has one extra month, the blood moon (a time in the year when strange things happen and magic is hard to control). So winter in Gaiapeia is a long and dangerous affair.

Development Update June 12th

Why hello there! It is time for our next regularly scheduled update post, it seems. Time really flies, doesn’t it? I hope you’re all having a good June so far.

Speaking of June, I assume you’ve all seen the first short story I posted. It took me a bit to figure out how much to write, and where exactly to stop before getting into spoiler territory. I want the short stories to be companion pieces to the main story, and as such they can’t give any crucial info that non-patron...

Development Update May 29th

Why hello there! It seems like it’s time for our regularly scheduled development update. So sit back, grab yourself something to drink, and let’s go over the details.

First things first, as you all know, I’ve gotten the first demo out. The feedback has been largely positive, I fixed some bugs and typos, and things seem to be going well so far. With the launch of the demo out of the way, I can now really hunker down and get Chapter 4 written.

While the first three chapters we...

First ever patreon post (I have no idea what I'm doing)

Why hello there!

Apparently you have to make a post  before you can launch your patreon, so here I am! If you're reading this - wow, I'm floored. I had no expectations at all going into this, so actually getting support is mildly surprising.

Thank you so much for supporting me. I love writing more than anything else in the world but it's really difficult to make money from it, so I'm kinda relying on the support of my readers. Your support shows me that people actually care e...
