It’s been most of my life since I read it, but I think the Stephen King novel, The Tommyknockers, is about the discovery of a crashed extraterrestrial ship. It radiates something that gives people the ability to reconfigure simple tech to do impossible things (wiring up a bunch of flashlight batteries to power their homes), but slowly transforms them into something like the aliens which originally flew the ship. Having a significant amount of metal in one’s head (skull plate, steel artificial teeth) made someone resistant or immune to the radiation. I don’t know what it had to do with mining fae, if anything, but maybe I’m just forgetting that because it wasn’t a favorite. The metal cobalt is named after asimilar type of mythical mine creature. Kobolds were said to poison or spoil iron, and cobalt was the result of their work. In the original Baldur’s Gate CRPG from the latter ‘90s, there was a problem with getting good quality iron, and your party discovers it’s because kobolds were poisoning it somehow.

Jay is wrong to say "Just watch a zombie movie." No zombie movie shows 100 million people marching up to zombies shouting "I refuse to live in fear!"

I was at this live show and still had a ball listening to it again a month later!
