It's interesting that so many people strongly dislike Elon Musk. I'm neutral on him within the class of "corporate executives." He is hostile to worker empowerment and unionization, and possibly indifferent to worker safety. But at least his products don't actively try to kill the earth or people (with the possible exception of Auto-Pilot!) He's a far sight better than any executive for a tobacco, Opioid medicine, coal, natural gas, firearm, weapons, mercenary or oil industry in my estimation. I think he's more of a symptom of the problem that the extremely wealthy (not just the "rich) have too much power in our society. If he uses his weird influence to boost skepticism then it's a win.

I think the Steve and everyone else have been reasonable by not being crazy Elon fans and criticism him when he is off but giving credit when it is due. He is a very polarizing figure, so no matter how they treat Elon, there will always be some of us who won't be happy about the treatment he is getting.

2021-12-23 18:43:15 +0000 UTCMusk makes a lot of unfounded marketing claims, but his companies have delivered on their promises in ways that no other companies have yet (and at least Tesla has kicked off a major industrial transformation that is very much to humanity's benefit; arguably, SpaceX has too), so "vaporware salesman" seems unfounded, even if it's catchy. It's a little mind-boggling that someone can simultaneously do so much objective good for humanity AND be a pretty horrible person, but Musk has managed both.

He probably won’t listen to it since he’s not technically savvy, but he was very happy that I listen to something that helps me learn about science. It made for a good bonding experience.
