SGU COMMUNITY Livestream // Friday December 17th 2021

Sorry I posted the wrong one before, but let this be in lieu of a livestream this week!

Here is a discussion of White immunity, which I have recently heard called a more accurate description than White privilege, as it is less subject to questions of socioeconomic status and more directly related to caste and White power/supremacy: https://ncore.ou.edu/media/filer_public/43/cd/43cd1bc4-e1db-41a8-a787-23d1527174b2/cabrera___white_immunity_.pdf To the best of my current knowledge, I am myself primarily of Anglo-Saxon heritage, that is, the group that first defined itself as White.

Is this going to also be posted on the SGU Patreon Livestream podcast feed? I re-downloaded the 12/17 episode this morning, and it still appears to be the 12/10 episode (same length, down to the second) [Edit] - It's fixed now... I think the file wasn't replaced, but the link in the RSS feed was updated to a new URL. So re-downloading got the erroneous file again, but "Refresh content from RSS" and then re-downloading DID work. Thanks, Ian!

I've heard that cluster headaches have been described as worse than pregnancy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_headache#Pain The Force Awakens was somewhat of a return to the roots of #4 that everyone bitched about regarding the prequels. But it also seemed to incorporate a bit of #6 and had to go beyond the Death Star for an "ultimate weapon" without resorting to Douglas Adams' hyperspatial supernova bomb. The Marvel movies are just a fun escape best described as "visual rollercoasters." Most movies are of the moment and formulaic. But Steve is right, if you have zero expectation, you can enjoy movies more. Voicing outside of ones race is always risky, and the discussion here misses some points. I'll address one comment that Steve mentions: an actor/actress of a race speaking in a "stereotypical" voice when they don't speak that way isn't proof of anything except that they personally don't speak that way. The actor isn't representative of the race as a whole any more than a stereotype is representative of every individual within that group. A Jewish actor who doesn't wear wear a Yarmulke wouldn't be stereotyping Jews by wearing one for a role.

This is the audio file from the 10th, not the 17th.
