Notes
Phew! This was a pretty tough animation to get through. It seems all Lara models are very high fidelity which makes them great looking for sure, but they're very tough to work with in terms of FPS management. However, the scarier the challenge the more enticing it becomes for me because my focus is always skill growth!
...Or maybe I'm just really bad at optimizing viewport performance and will just be embarrassed looking at back at this.
One thing I really wanted to tackle with this animation was giving it a proper sense of dynamic which I feel I've been very bad at in most of my previous works. I feel like I leave a lot of shots lingering for too long which sort of comes off as stale, which I would like to prevent in order to retain intruigine and a good rhythm for the watcher. As such, I've been going back to studying more in regards to cinematography, mostly articles, and even revisting some older stuff I've read. My main drive has always been to become a great animator above all, and I feel like there's no better resource than what actual movies do. I did try going by intuition with some previous works (such as the latest Jill animation) and in hindsight it just came out so bad, I really don't am unpleased with them in hindsight.
Lighting is also one of those never-ending battles that can be done a million different ways, both good or bad, it seems. A concept I stumbled upon was something called chiaroscuro lighting (which I conveniently almost immediately saw in a YouTube video right afterwards O_o). I wanted to give a try with this animation, but I think it's another thing to keep working on.
Futhermore, I'm also still trying to get a grasp of how to do color correcting in DaVinci Resolve the way the professionals do it. I really appreciate this program after moving over from Premiere just by how smooth it is. I might work on something to specifically get a better grasp of how to make assets in Resolve just for the sake of it. I hope this one's a treat for you monster fan out there. Until next time!
(Oh yeah and I also found out that you can render multiple camera angles in one go in Blender by using timeline markers ☉ ‿ ⚆)
