The Chronological Rory - Part 2: 2015 - 2022

2015



This is the first one that starts to feel a bit like how I draw Rory today, don’t you think? I tried a different shape for his eyes  that works much better for him and is fairly close to his modern day self’s eyes.




Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. 

2016




Inspired by a clip from a UFC match I stumbled upon that seemed just so very Rory and Eli. I redraw this one later and it’s one of the biggest glow-ups of the two.



Another slight redesign, but at least this time I drew him in a different pose. What is that pose? Not a clue. It's like the little tippy tap dance dogs do when they are excited. I streamline the fur on his cheeks a bit more (compare it to early pics - he finally decided to use a comb!), and introduce the Incredibly Important concept of neck floof! I tried to push his overall body shape to be a bit more stylized and dog-like, with broader shoulders and a bigger chest among other things. Randomly, I still feel like the linework in his right leg still hold up really well, haha.

The one unfortunate thing is during this time he suffers from the same huge nose disease that Eli did…

2017



And here’s the redraw! Rory gets a lot of these, doesn’t he? He gets a new outfit here that finally gives him a bit of a sense of style and a taste for wearing red. His neck floof changes a bit again, and I’ll end up coming back to this style down the road. Still one of my favorite pics of these two!



“Let’s go - Soul Resonance!”

Now look, I’m not saying I have an entire Lesser Than Three x Soul Eater crossover headcanon in my head, but *cough* I absolutely do. The Eli spear is based off my other character Tagg’s spear, but when/if I revisit the concept I’d change his weapon form to something more unique. Naturally, these two would have near perfect Soul Resonance.

2018



Rory’s first comic strip! This was also the second time I drew Rory and Annie in the same scene, but only the first time in the current canon. I imagined the two not hanging out too often but on good terms, but sharing Eli as a best friend they probably start to see each other more and more often. Sorry Rory, but Annie’s expressions steal the show here.



Some practice! I want to say at least some of these were based on actual photos of huskies, which probably explains that enraged Rory down there.



Another old favorite - this one is loosely inspired by Kingdom Hearts. The first time you can really see his fur patterns and just how fluffy he is overall! His dog tag must have gotten lost after the two necklaces got tangled up, since he stopped wearing it from here.

2019-2020






See, I can never draw Rory alone because all of his best pics involve Eli! His eyebrows are a little more pronounced and his muzzle has a bit of a curve to it that finally makes him modern Rory.

2021

I tried a slightly different approach to his cheek fur which is something I ended up continuing.




I say that his best pics involve Eli, but this one I like a lot too! Guess he just works better with a friend. This one is a little ironic to me since this was the first Rory I drew after the group picture with all six Lesser Than Three characters - His snoot ended up slimmer and a little pointier than I intended, but I actually ended up liking the look so I kept it. So immediately after the biggest Lesser Than Three pic I ever drew, I made Rory’s design out of date in said pic. (Not that I think anybody but me would notice, but it’s amusing still!)

2022



True to his name, he looks good in red!
