Ramdb52 - Bonus WIPs

I was asked about my process for posing/sketching, and figured it would be easier to show it rather than describe it! So here's some more sketches I did for the recent commission I did for Ramdb52.

First thing I did for this one was a quick sketch to get the general pose down. I usually work really small and size-up the sketch later, that way I just get the basic silhouette down and don't get too caught up in the details yet. I'll start out with simple (if very messy) shapes to get the idea down. I was asked if I used a line of action or not, and for whatever reason by brain usually refuses to follow whatever action line I set, so I tend not to use them that often.

Next I detailed out the shapes more - I focused more on the head/torso here since I wanted to be sure to get the curve right. This one gets to be the banner image for this post because I love his expression, lol.

After that I had gotten the pose down how I wanted it but ended up not being quite satisfied with the proportions, so during the tiedown I fixed them up as well. Usually if that happens I'll use the lasso tool to move around/distort the rough sketch to my liking and then draw on a layover over that.

And from there I was able to ink without too many adjustments! This isn't 100% how I do things every time - like for some more difficult poses I'll have to break down more of the body shapes than I did in the second shape, or for some of my comic strips I'm able to go from step 1 and skip straight to step 4 if I play my cards right - but that's the general idea of how I do things. Hopefully it helps, or at least you found it interesting!

I've been posting more breakdown sketches for my comic pages lately, but would you guys be interested in seeing more posts like this/more breakdowns in my sketch posts as well? let me know!
