Avosketch
Added 2023-11-28 19:42:04 +0000 UTCCurrently working on this avocet sketch! The bottom right composition is probably very close to the final piece. My process usually consists of working with a few reference photos and then sketching a silhouette. When I feel like the silhouette itself is strong enough to be identifiable on its own I start adding color.
It turns out avocets are not super involved parents! Their chicks are extremely independent after hatching. Instead of the classic "chicks following parent" I decided to draw an avo parent gesturing their chicks onward in front of them.
