Case 279: Zebb Quinn

In early January 2000, residents of Asheville, North Carolina were told to be on the lookout for 18-year-old Zebb Quinn after he failed to return home after finishing his shift at Wal-Mart. A co-worker of Zebb’s, Robert Jason Owens, claimed that Zebb had sped off after receiving a mysterious message on his pager.

Two weeks later, an unexpected breakthrough in the case presents some bizarre clues. But as twist after twist emerges, the prevailing question remains - did Zebb Quinn leave of his own accord, or was he the victim of foul play?

Who?

Bob Trenwith

Commenters thinking this is criticism have not met Peter Chaloner.

I keep wondering about Jason’s wife.. was she oblivious to it all? Does she fit the description of the woman seen driving Zeb’s car? That’s just the peak of the iceberg re: the investigation

Bob I think you made a very good point. I wonder what the sex percentages are for victims, someone keeps a spreadsheet on the Casefile reddit with tons of data

J. Chips

😂 there is always those people who can’t let others express sympathy for animals

Jesus I knew someone like you would say that. Am I not allowed to look at the positive? You sound miserable

Accusation?? Criticise?? Did you see my QUESTION? It follows a completely factual statement, and I am interested in whether they are responding to OUR biases. I understand that many people like to accept everything without thinking ... while others demand that people not think and question.

3 people have been murdered and your happy about a puppy that has managed to stay alive ?

Beau McMillan

Fwiw last week he also shared a bunch of interesting photos to go with the case so he's not totally negative all the time. i think Bob's just gonna Bob along 😅

Hey we don't make fun of your hobbies, let a man hate stuff

I didn't hear most of this podcast because Host had to stop to explain what a pager was and what it did and I crumbled away into dust like a 3000 year old mummy

Suicide Sauce

Awh that makes me so happy knowing the puppy at least got to live a good life

I remember learning of this case on Disappeared and never knew there was a resolution to it. Great choice for an episode! And just a shout out to Mike and his always excellent music!

Megan

That is a silly accusation. Do you have nothing else to do but criticize this podcast almost every week

David Rogosaroff

Never heard of this one before. Tremendously sad loss of life, Zebb. Side note, my heart broke when describing Zebbs dog wimpering for him at his chair.

Zac

So well written and executed as usual! Thank you for the detail about what happened to the puppy. I was thinking I was going to have a sleepless night wondering about it.

I'm not even 10 minutes in, but hearing things like pagers and *69 being explained as old technology

Eileen

i thought i knew this case and turns out i didn't know the HALF, well done as always

AR

I would imagine it's a mix of most crimes being drug and/or gang related and therefore not falling as easily into the arena of the true crime genre, and the factor of the audience (meaning a general true crime audience) for whatever reason being less interested in those crimes than they are in something that's more of a mystery. That said Casefile makes everything interesting!

AR

The puppy detail is bewildering

Emily Moore

Absolutely compelling.

Michael Brodie

Good to see a male victim featured. Given that 80% of murder victims in the US are male, and 70% in Australia and England, I have to wonder why only about 30% of cases here feature male victims. Does that speak to the biases of the listeners or of the presenters?
