Ember Launched!

Salutations Super Villains!

Today is an auspicious day. Put aside your 2024 D&D pre-release nerves, and come and look at this! Our friends at Foundry HQ have been working hard on their Ember project and I'd like to tell you a bit about it!

What is Ember? It's a colossal campaign designed and hand-crafted just for Foundry, a massive sandbox to immerse you and your players. It's going to add some fantastic features to Foundry, including:

- Support for D&D 5e and the Crucible system

- Built-in puzzles, traps and scripted events taking advantage of Foundry's powerful feature set

- A new Vista system for non-combat encounters, a "Theatre of the Screen"

- A built-in calendar system for time of day, lunar cycles, weather and seasons

- Something like 25000 explorable hexes, 30 different kinds of biomes from metropolis to subterranean layers

- A huge selection of events with outcomes and decisions that affect the story - the module will help you track choices and decisions to allow for branching and unique playthroughs. This kind of thing is almost impossible to achieve in print media. The kind of wonderful emergent storytelling makes Baldurs Gate 3 such a joy to play.

- A top-down token creator (for those who dislike the pog style, rejoice!)

- Are you fed up with running the same 20 monsters that WotC puts in every adventure? 150 fun adversaries are included!

Does this sound good or what? If you want to know more or want to jump right in now, please check out the Kickstarter

You can find more details on the Kickstarter page and on the Ember FAQ page

Take care, and thanks for reading

"Ember Game" is actually a years long campaign, and a setting, and a 25,000 hex sandbox, all in one Foundry module, **but not actually a game**. you use either dnd 5th edition, or Crucible - the actual game they created which is included for free - to play it. its the worst written KS ive seen. It would be the least legible even before the person who wrote pledges clearly not being same who wrote main text

If the "Ember Game" is the Foundry module, I really recommend they edit the page to show that clearly. Nothing in the description on the Rewards page would suggest that it's the module on Foundry. "- The full Ember Game plus an exclusive Early Access period which allows you to start your adventure several weeks before other purchasers. - The PDF Player's Guide, a document for you to share with players before you begin play to help familiarize them with the basics of the setting and the choices they will make during character creation." If you're reading from the Rewards page, it looks like you need to drop $220 (!!!!) to get Foundry support.

@Mr. Primate I'm editing this message to reflect that I didn't understand that the "Ember Game" meant the entire, stand-alone, Foundry module. To be honest, if you are on the Rewards Page, where you are asked to pay for stuff, that is not mentioned anywhere in the product description. In fact, because the reward at $220 includes a "Foundry License", it LOOKS like you need to go to THAT tier to get a version that works on Foundry. Lowest Tier Reward Description: "- The full Ember Game plus an exclusive Early Access period which allows you to start your adventure several weeks before other purchasers. - The PDF Player's Guide, a document for you to share with players before you begin play to help familiarize them with the basics of the setting and the choices they will make during character creation." Original Message - I misunderstood the offering, but if you read the description, you'll see why me, and probably a LOT of other people, are misunderstanding the offer. "I'm very disappointed that the only way to support this and get Foundry support is to drop over $200 for a game that won't be out for more than a year. I'm very supportive of the developer community, but this feels a bit much. Wanted to support, but $220 is something I (and I imagine a lot of other people) can't do."

yeah i got caught when i tried to pick a pledge and nothing mentioned foundry or vtts and had pictures of books and cardboard boxes for the game. this one is all my fault. well 89 percent or so :D thanks!

Matthew Screng Paluch

Only the book is a physical product, as either an add on or as part of a higher tier. The "Ember Game" is the Foundry module. From the third paragraph on the kickstarter: By supporting this Kickstarter campaign you will receive the full Ember game - added to your Foundry Virtual Tabletop user account - as soon as it is complete along with lifetime access to patches, content updates, and customer support.

MrPrimate

WENT ALL IN BIG TIME ON THIS - I MEAN BIG TIME PLEDGE - WOOT!

Agile Monk

so the "Ember game", pictured as a physical box (like the settings book is hardback) is a Foundry module? I dont see where it says this anywhere (i tried to write this to not sound whiny but it didnt work sorry)

Matthew Screng Paluch

ill look again. i checked this morning the moment it launched and it was (i guess im repeating myself) just physical boxes

Matthew Screng Paluch

The lowest pledge is just the Foundry module and pdf...

MrPrimate

i didnt see any of this and was hugely disappointed. I didnt even see a pledge that had foundry modules, just physical stuff. and a pdf. zero vtt integration

Matthew Screng Paluch

Cool. You just seemed so in-the-know and on top of the message and you obviously have the skills. I assumed you were part of the development.

Just to be clear, I'm not involved, this isn't a paid promotion, I'm advertising here because I like, nay, love the stuff the Foundry folks do, and think it's something that my Patreon supporters may want to know about.

MrPrimate

What is your connection and involvement? Since you're advertising for it, it seems you should disclose that. Not that I mind. I'm pretty interested in Ember. And more so if you're involved.

How do I access this Glass Cannon network?

Sharon Woodward

Thank you. Browsed the FAQ and this looks great.

Chris Bolduc Rowan

There are going to be some demos on Glass Cannon network With Andrew, every Wed for 4 weeks, starting tomorrow!

MrPrimate

Where can we see some more in depth play and use? I’m very interested.
