Tips at the Table 02: Jennifer and Todd (August 2017)

Hey y'all, Ali here.

So, when I came to be the producer of Friends at the Table, I tried to be way more cautious about episode lengths. Sure, sometimes we have reasons to push and stretch things and there was no way An Animal Out of Context wasn't going to be four hours--but I really try to keep things under 1:45, and DEFINITELY under two hours.

This Tips at the Table episode is some how two hours and twenty minutes.

I don't know how this happened (I do), I really hope to make these episodes shorter going forward (I do!!), I think this is a really good episode (I doo oO o),  so enjoy!

A quick note: from 1:45 on we kinda drive deep into the technical side of podcast making, in terms of what equipment you might want to get and what programs to use and explaining a little bit on how we throw this all together. If you don't think you're ever gonna record a podcast, you can probably skip it! If you're interested in more production-y questions like this, feel free to send them in!! We organize these questions based on who we want on the recording to answer it, so don't be afraid to be like "Hey I'm having this issue with my character, it seemed like something similar to what happened with Throndir, can Dre chime in on this" or "I know Jack/Ali/Austin do the post production stuff, how do you decide what scenes to put music to" or whatever is totally fine! We def want your questions so send them in to tipsatthetable@gmail.com!!

While I have you, thanks for your patience with this! I thought it might have been obvious that this was going to trade places with Live at the Table once that went up the weekend that this was supposed to--but I guess it uh, didn't. So for those who were waiting, sorry! And thank you!!

Featuring: Austin, Ali, Keith, Dre

Yeah, my "long episode fatigue" is definitely about maintaining investment and attention to fictional stories and worlds, you guys could put out a six hour long episode of various people answering questions or telling stories and I would never ever feel overwhelmed by the length!

Ani Mosity

Oh nice! I'm running low on podcasts to listen to at work. Between this and the Bombcast I should be set for tomorrow!

D. W. O'Boyle

I don't get people who complain about long episodes. Why are you complaining about getting more content you want?

R Qualls

Agreed. These sorts of QA discussion podcasts can go longer and are easier to pause and continue later.

Kieren Martin

Honestly, for content like this, I have no problem with these episodes being longer, it's much easier to dip into a small chunk at a time than a regular episode, and this is definitely the kind of content that lead me to backing the patreon.
