[MOANS EXCLUSIVE] Folk & Traditional Mini-Concert! [Wayfaring Stranger] [Wild Mountain Thyme] [Talking About Sinners] [And More!]
Added 2025-05-23 17:35:29 +0000 UTCHi!
I’ve been getting back into folk and traditional music and I thought it could be a fun chance for play some music just for the Moans, since these are all public domain*.
I also chat about the songs and talk a bit about the movie Sinners, so CW for discussion around its themes, which include racism. I don’t really spoil any major plot points either, but I do discuss the main villain as he relates to the themes.
Not my best singing, I’ll be real, but hopefully that adds to the authenticity. Enjoy!

oh man this was so cool! I don’t listen to a ton of folk music so these were all new to me, and having the history and context was a nice touch. you have a very nice voice (I mean, obviously) and this style of singing really suits you and yeah, it did feel very authentic and natural, if it was too forced and polished I feel like it kinda would miss the point. sinners was good but slightly overrated to me, especially in regards to the relationships between the characters and I expected more from MBJ’s dual performance (but then again my standard for actors playing twins is rachel weisz in dead ringers, which I think about at least once a day). also hell yes hearts beat loud, now that’s the perfect comfort movie.

2025-06-22 21:22:51 +0000 UTCOkay first of all your voice is absolutely BEAUTIFULLLL as usual. What a treat! Your voice suits folk music so much! Thank you for sharing 🫶🏼🫶🏼 I wanted to save this until I watched Sinners and I finally saw it! Now, nobody needs a European’s lukewarm take on U.S. politics and history so I’ll refrain lmao. I will say I found your points quite thought provoking. I definitely agree with what you said about assimilation and appropriation I thought ‘Sinners’ was wonderfully nuanced. It was really interesting and unique to have Remmick as the villain rather than an overtly racist white antagonist usually seen in period pieces. It definitely added to the insidiousness of it all and I found the metaphor to be clear. The standout performance for me was Miles Caton. He was so amazing in the film. The ‘I Lied to You’ montage part gave me chills it was so good. Honestly I think it’s the best film I’ve seen all year I want to see it again! Being half Irish growing up in England most of the folk music I listened to was admittedly Irish rebel songs 💀. But I do really love Pete Seeger!! Edward Norton did a great job portraying him in ‘A Complete Unknown’. (Please please please do more of these 🥺).

2025-06-09 17:13:01 +0000 UTCThese were so gorgeous. I came up folk singing, and you more than did these songs justice. Hares on the Mountain was particularly evocative (and why does my guitar never sound like this when I just mic my voice?!). Thank you so much for sharing. You have a(nother) rare talent xx
