Tier Chaos

Dear Patrons,

I want to get your feedback on something... Since starting to focus on Patreon I've been humbled by the support you've provided to our work on Alice: Asylum. THANK YOU. You are awesome!

But... I feel like I've not properly managed the tiers and how they reward you as Patrons. Especially at the higher levels ($50 and $100)... these tiers are a bit confusing/redundant or nonsensical.

I'd like to make some adjustments, but need your feedback before I do that. Here's what I am thinking...

1) Merge the $100 and $50 tiers into a $75 per month tier with the following rewards: a) a Chaos necklace ($100 value) and b) a monthly art print ($100 value per month). That means you'll get one necklace and art print after your first month and a new art print each subsequent month for one price of $75 per month. What do you think?

2) Look at the $2-$15 tiers and let me know if you think these are structured correctly or could use adjustment. From what I can see right now they look OK... progressing from "access" to "video credits" to "in-game credits" to "access" when we have development builds... Makes sense to me but I want to make sure we're doing this right. Thoughts?

For the $100/$50 adjustment... to be clear, everyone who supported at these levels previously will still get a Chaos Necklace for their first month. Necklaces are in production at the factory now (picture of production sample above. We expect to take delivery of those in January). And going forward, for everyone in the $75 tier we'll send out art...

Anyone see any issues with this adjustment? Ideas for how better to do this? I don't want to make a big move without your feedback!

I look forward to your thoughts and comments.

Cheers,

I went for the $75 tier because of all the extras that are a must have for a big fan, but I would have gone more. The issue was the tier goes from $75 to $500. If there was a $150 option for example, I could have spent a little more without breaking the bank, however I am very excited to be privvy to this project and I think you’re doing great work!

I think merging the 2 tiers into one mid tier sounds like a great plan. Also adding the $35 tier - or doing something moderate like an art print after being a patreon for 6 months on the lower tiers would be great as well. Sort of like an Achievement, because like Josey said, we are all Gamers, and we do love our Achievements! Whatever you guys end up working out for it I am just beyond thrilled to be able to say I got to play some small part in helping it get started. I have been a fan of the game since American McGee's Alice came out on PC (I'm OLD) and I am working on a calf sleeve of tattoo work from the games and concept art from the Madness Returns art book. Thanks for everything you do.

I can see where you are all coming from. I do also agree with David on this. I'm currently at $50, and the jump to $75 would be a bit too steep for me, sadly, as I support several creators through Patreon. As much as I would love to gain the extra fun prints monthly, I mean who doesn't want the fantastic artwork that is created and believe me if I could, I'd be sitting at the $100 tier to get the goodies, the jump up would make it impossible to support the other creators as well. The idea of letting someone pick their artwork could help increase the number of people who donate at that tier for a month, possibly. It's a rough one. I have to also agree with WIll's idea too. After all, if someone subscribes for just a month to get one thing, or an item or two, they might be encouraged to stick at that tier if another reward shows up for time. We're gamers (and storytellers and artists and creative people), we obviously love achievements. ;) The only other thought I feel I can add to this, is that I do not feel neglected or treated poorly by the current plan designs. I look longingly at the tier with monthly prints, and who knows, maybe if you did make it $75 I could find a way to slip into that much easier than the $100 plan. Hm... the more I think about it, the more I think through my finances wondering what else I could give up to get my hands on those sweet, sweet prints. No matter what choice you all make though, know that I am proud to be apart of this, and will happily accept whatever choices you make. You understand what you need to do what you do. I just get to sit here, give my 2 pence worth, and be entertained, enthralled, and bask in your unique genius.

I'm currently on the $15 tier. I'm happy with the $2-$15 tiers as they are currently. Merging the other two to $75 sounds like a nice idea and would make more sense. However, then there would be a huge gap from $15 to $75. You'll have some gains yes, but losses as well. How about having something in the middle to make up for it too? Like maybe making a $35 tier. Similar to the $50 tier, but with this you can get one art print of your choice but no chaos necklace. And it's not too much of a big jump from $15 to $35 for those that would like to give more but can't do $50 a month, like myself. I would really like that. Plus, I really like Will's idea about after a couple months of pledging, we could get an extra reward. Possibly a Chaos Necklace after maybe 5 or so months with my $35 tier idea would sound really nice. Those are my thoughts. :)

You’re welcome for the support, sorry I didn’t become a patron sooner. Currently, I pledge $15 per month and I am happy with this, as like others I don’t have the room to put up an art print every month. As for merging the two tiers, I can’t give you a validated response, as it is really up to what the patrons of those two tiers would like to do. However, what about keeping the tiers as they are and adding another item that these patrons would receive every six months (or so)? For example, both tiers get the Chaos Necklace now, or when they first pay and then in six months’ time (or so) they both get their choice of the Chaos wallet or coin purse (for example) and then in another six months’ time (or so) they receive another item? If this option was to be put in place, nothing changes and everyone gets a bonus gift every six months (or so). Also, would it be possible to make the people who are at the $50 tier, be able to choose what art print they would like, from the prints that are available, upon their first payment? If both these changes were to be put into place, I would increase my pledge to $50.

I'm only at the 5$ tier and I'm happy with what I'm getting. My only complaint, is that I can't contribute more (being unemployed and having no job in sight), but such is life (:

As someone in the $2-$15 bracket I think they are perfectly fair, can't comment on the higher ones other than for those on $50 it may be a big jump up, I personally would consider it a big jump.

Eddie, I am waiting to collect feedback. Probably makes the most sense to start this after the next monthly cycle?

American McGee

It sounds fine to me; however, I won't be able to pledge $75 each month ($50 is maybe already a bit much for me), so I'll most likely have to lower my pledge. But, I don't mind not getting art every month. I don't have enough space to display so many artprints anyway! Also, I agree with what icekiller158 said about the $2 tier.

I would like to be able to pay more if I could but I simply don't have the income for more than 50 a month. This series is really important to me but I also have rent and everything else. Like I'm fine with just getting the necklace and not getting art every month if that's what it takes. I just need to make sure I can help fund this while still taking care of my financial responsibilities. Sorry to be a downer :/

As the person who pointed this out and suggested along the lines of the merge, I'm ok with it. Now, I'm going to point out another thing. The $2 tier only allows access to the post and no credits, but for some reason you also included the $2 tier in the livestream credits that scrolls in the screen. The $5 tier is where the livestream credits suppose to start, so you have some sorting out to do.

I'm happy with how the $2-15 tiers are currently. Thanks :)

Works for me, love the art and won't complain paying less. Maybe look into another higher tier. When would this start?

I'd have to agree with what Jason Carpenter stated. He said exactly what I was thinking.

The $2-15 options are fine. Very happy with what I’m receiving so far!

I think its fine, for the 50 & 75 option. Though you may consider offering a larger option for those who are at 100 and are ok with a bit more (like 125) because you may lose a bit from the 100 dollar people (and gain a bit from 50)

Going from 50 to $75 a month sounds fine to me. I definitely think it’s worth the incentives
