September Movies

What films are you looking forward to seeing in September? Are we all just going to collectively say MEGALOPOLIS lol?

Comments

I'm super stoked to see Alien Romulus! Finally a good Alien movie (maybe lol, just glad to hear you liked it).

The Trail We Banana

My top three: Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice The 4:30 Movie Megalopolis Seems like a kick-ass month for sci-fi films, I'll prob get to most of these at some point: Subservience Uglies Meanwhile on Earth Omni Loop The Substance The Wild Robot

Ross Skilton

Thank you for this amazing breakdown.

Megalopolis, obviously. Even though I think it's gonna be Babylon meets Blade Runner artistic failure.

Alexandros Alexandropoulos

The Substance. Really enjoyed Revenge, love Margaret Qualley, and love the idea of Demi Moore doing something this weird and meta. (and Megalopolis, obvs)

Edward Looney

There are only 4 movies that really peak my interest for the rest of the year, two coming out in September. The first is Megalopolis just because it’s Francis Ford Coppola and it seems to be a very divisive, sumputous film. Next, The Substance looks really good, like a Cronenberg/Ducournau trippy good time. I’m excited for both and I’m always open to recommendations.

A lot of interesting stuff coming out this month due to Halloween and early Oscar contenders. Of course Megalopolis is my most anticipated. Most Anticipated The Substance (Sept 20) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_substance Megalopolis (Sept 27) Critically Acclaimed/Festival Buzz/Could Be Something Special Hoard (Sept 6) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hoard “The story follows Maria - a teenager whose mother used to be a hoarder. Now (set in the 90s) she lives in a foster home where a previous resident Michael inspires her to revisit her childhood memories and passions that she has repressed.” His Three Daughters (Sept 6, Limited/ Sept 20, Netflix) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/his_three_daughters “Emotions run high when three estranged sisters reunite in a cramped New York City apartment to watch over their ailing father during his final days.” Red Rooms (Sept 6) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/red_rooms “The high-profile case of serial killer Ludovic Chevalier has just gone to trial, and Kelly-Anne is obsessed. When reality blurs with her morbid fantasies, she goes down a dark path to seek the final piece of the case’s puzzle.” A Different Man (Sept 20) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/a_different_man “Aspiring actor Edward undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance. But his new dream face quickly turns into a nightmare, as he loses out on the role he was born to play and becomes obsessed with reclaiming what was lost.” Stars Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve (Worst Person In the World), and Adam Pearson (the disfigured man from Under the Skin). Sleep (Sept 27) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/sleep_2023 “Hyun-su and Soo-jin are newlyweds. Seemingly out of nowhere, he starts talking in his sleep. “Someone’s inside.” From that night on, whenever he falls asleep, he transforms into someone else with no recollection of what happened the night before. Soo-jin is overwhelmed with anxiety that he’d hurt her family while she sleeps and can barely sleep a wink because of this irrational fear. Despite sleep treatment, Hyun-su’s sleepwalking only intensifies, and she begins to feel that her unborn child may be in danger…” Bong Joon-ho is calling it "the most unique horror film and the smartest debut film I've seen in 10 years.” Out There/Slightly Curious Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice (Sept 6) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/beetlejuice_beetlejuice Fan of the original, not so sure about this one even with Burton directing. Sweeney Todd was his last great movie… Speak No Evil (Sept 13) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/speak_no_evil_2024 Remake of a solid Danish horror film from 2022. Know little as possible before seeing it. The trailer gives away more than the original did. Accidentally mentioned it last month, didn’t realize it got pushed back. The 4:30 Movie (Sept 13) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_4_30_movie Kevin Smith’s latest film which apparently is semi-autobiographical about theater hopping with his friends as a kid. Wolfs (Sept 20) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/wolfs Stars Clooney & Pitt in an action comedy. Apparently a sequel has already been green-lit. Abruptio (Sept 27) - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/abruptio An adult puppet horror film starring James Marsters, Hana Mae Lee, Christopher McDonald, Jordan Peele, Robert Englund, and Sid Haig.
