LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL

I really loved this film. Of course I saw it right after I shot my best movies of the year so far. As is typical. But if I could do it over again, this would definitely make it on my list. Has anyone seen it? What are your thoughts? I will do a review for it in the fall. Likely around Halloween time or possibly before. It's not perfect, but I can see this one becoming a cult classic that people bring up in the coming years.

It was familiar but fresh. Thought the super surreal ending was a little out of left field tonally. Kinda wish they had more of it through the rest of the film. But, I enjoyed it overall.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. From the production design to the performances, I thought it was a very well-made film. And it has a very interesting twist that I was not expecting.

I liked it, but I wanted them to lean harder into the found footage late night angle to service the climax, rather than what we ended up with, which feels more akin to James Wan. However, I thought the fever dream ending mostly made up for that. The aesthetics, acting, and foreboding dread were great. I also thoroughly enjoyed the nods to the Bohemian Grove and, ultimately, this Faustian deal for success at the expense of his wife. People will do a lot of terrible shit for even a modicum of fame and fortune. But that’s show biz, baby!

This movie is severely underrated. This is the kind of movies that excite me, really fresh and cliché at the same time. It grabbed all of my attention. The humour, the satire, the suspense. It was a great spectacle. The way the last act was presented though was too cheesy for my taste. I feel that we had everything so well placed for a better conclusion, more creepy stuff and a more effective arc for our protagonist. But the way it ended was a little meh. But overall as a movie was really special!

It would’ve been absolutely hilarious if we heard the behind the scenes because of a hot mic or something

Rest in peace, Shelley. She was one of my favorite actresses ever. This one hurts a lot.

Shane Palamara

In other unrelated but tragic news, Shelley Duvall died today from complications of diabetes at age 75. She was a fine actress and we'll all miss her.

Oh I really loved it. I'm a huge fan of David Dastmalchian and it felt like a showcase of his versatility. Usually he plays the creepy, unhinged side character, but here he has to be creepy, charming, funny, and believable as a particular brand and era of talk show host, and I think he pulls it off brilliantly. I also love the possessed girl in this. The way she speaks and carries herself just looks and feels slightly wrong, and I love the giddiness she has towards the TV spectacle. It felt like a truly original take on the possessed girl character, which has been done to death. My nitpicks are that the behind the scenes aspect and the hypnosis kind of break the whole "found footage" conceit, and some of the Network-esque show biz satire didn't totally work for me. I also don't remember it quite sticking the landing, but I need to rewatch it to be sure. A very fun horror movie. Perfect for Halloween

I absolutely loved the buildup, but found the climax to be too cheesy for its own good. I definitely get what they were going for but the visual effects took me out of it. I still think it’s a good film overall
