April Movies

Which April movies are you guys looking forward to...besides The Northman (XD....don't worry, I'm very excited about that one)? Let's discuss.

Comments

Anyone else excited for the final season of Better Call Saul?

Emerson B

For me it’s the Northman, but other than that, definitely the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Trailer looks unbelievable

Jackson Littlewood

Swiss Army Man is genuinely one of my favorite A24 movies. Very excited for this next one

Jackson Littlewood

lol...I'm still laughing about when they broke up...and Casey Affleck tried to nonchalantly throw away a giant cardboard cutout of her for his brother. XD

Deepfocuslens

Tokyo Vice looks cool, but I haven’t loved a Michael Mann thing since the 90s. Deep Water with Ben Affleck and Anna De Armas looks like a fun, not gonna put Gone Girl expectations on it, but maybe a trashy Netflix and chill type flick

jared Clarke

hm...this one I hadn't heard of. Sandra Oh must be in demand lately.

Deepfocuslens

I'm a cynic so nothing much gets me excited anymore. I'm not gonna act like the past is perfect, because it's not, but I've seen so much wasted potential and flat out garbage in recent years that I've just stopped caring. If something great does come out, I'll probably see it later down the line but I probably won't know about it when it's a new release.

Wolfman Brandon

Another one that looks interesting is "Umma".

Brian Wright

Think of it as donating to a charity to help prevent Nicolas Cage from having to make more shitty films to pay off the IRS. It’s a good cause.

Bennett Oliver

I just saw something about Tokyo Vice. Looks interesting. And yes, I'm excited about the same films. Ugh...movies are so expensive tho...-_-

Deepfocuslens

I mean...I think it's good to be interested and curious about the current state of things, and not always being stuck int he past. We glorify the past too much. There's great stuff coming out today. Some of it just as good, or superior.

Deepfocuslens

Hehe, I just saw "Blue Thunder" which was released in 1983. It was made for the cinema but seeing it now it comes across as "Made for TV Quality", especially in the sound effects. They used sound effects that you could hear in any 1980's TV series. Definitely should have won a Razzie for Worst Sound! 🤣

Brian Wright

It's okay. It's very sort of wish fulfillment from the author but as a wholesome little read, it gave me a bit of joy.

Tyler Shobe

Morbius. But there's another on my backlog that I really wanna see before then, "The Worst Person in the World". What are your opinions on this film?

Brian Wright

You’re welcome. I just looked up Everything Everywhere All At Once. I’ll check that out as well. It looks interesting.

Bennett Oliver

Besides The Northman... The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Oskitello

How many of them will be worthy of the theater and how many of them will be made for tv quality?

Wolfman Brandon

I've not read the Manga, is it any good?, I just liked the look of the trailer and I have a soft spot for things that are self referential.

Ross Skilton

Tokyo Vice sounds awesome. Definitely gonna have to check that out. Thanks for mentioning it!

Tyler Shobe

Just read the first volume of Pompo and curious how that's gonna translate. The animation in the trailer looks amazing and I think it could turn into a really light and breezy little anime flick.

Tyler Shobe

Everything Everywhere All At Once looks like the sort of arthouse comedy I live for. Loved the directing pair's last movie so very excited for this one

Tyler Shobe

Other than The Northman, there’s really only two releases I’m excited about. One is The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, the movie starring Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage. If the movie can get anywhere near as batshit insane as it sounds, I’ll have a good time. The other one is Memoria, starring Tilda Swinton. I have no idea what it’s about, only that it’s a very abstract, experimental film by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, the Thai director of Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. So I’m interested to check that out. Might be good, might put me to sleep. We’ll see. But what I’m most excited about isn’t a movie. It’s an upcoming show on HBO Max called Tokyo Vice, about an American reporter who investigates the criminal underworld of Tokyo. It’s got a pilot directed by Michael Mann, it’s got Ken Watanabe, and it’s got an awesome trailer that just came out today. Can’t wait.

Bennett Oliver

Dang....I have heard of only two of those. XD...this is why I look to you guys for suggestions. Haha.

Deepfocuslens

I'll probably not get round to watching all of these when they first release but I'll get to them at some point (probably), anyway the following films have piqued my interest - The Bubble, Vicious Fun, Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Tale of King Crab, The Northman, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Hatching, Pompo The Cinephile.
