You can read more about the specific iterations in the image itself, but generally, I like to play around with a couple different variations mid-process rather than create totally alternate silhouettes and outlines to intuit how I want a character to look. Even if you already "know" what you want them to look like, it's important to experiment regardless. I "knew" that I wanted the tan/brown color palette for Len, and then it turned out that the darker color palette suited him better. Though my current workflow is pretty habitual by now, I still look for little instances where I can try something new. A gradient here, a different stacking order there... those little things add up, and before you know it, you got a brand new drawing style that suits you better than ever before!
