Situation Update & Poll
Added 2023-06-27 04:59:04 +0000 UTCAlright, great news Squad! I have finally finished moving in all my old stuff into my new place :) The bad news is, the internet install guys aren't going to be able to get to my room until the 13th lol - So, once I'll have to hang tight for 2 more weeks -
So, in the meanwhile I've been doing a deep dive into the Unreal Special Effects. One of the aspects of Unreal I am MOST excited to dive into is the "Niagra Special Effects" category - It's something I've always had an interest in, and I've been watching a BUNCH of videos for how to use it, and got a lot to share once I get my internet up and running :)
One thing we'll have to decide though, is the type of special effects we're going to focus on. When I first moved to Unreal, I was Super fixated on making things look photorealistic. However, I've encountered a bit of a stylistic problem when it comes to photorealistic weapons and fire. In real life, bullets are barely visible (With the exception of tracer rounds) - So, I've had to start asking myself how "real" do we want to actually make things. We could easily make them look "cooler" than real with all the special effects in Niagra, but I'm not sure how far we want to take that, or if we should. So, let me know how important "realism" is for you guys -

Coolness over realness! Non PBR is super hot right now and I personally want to lean into the techniques to achieve that style for my own work. :)
