That last scene where Joel comforts Ellie after seeing all the blood on her face, you can see he realizes that he cares about her a lot, and I think all the previous episodes have led up to this moment. I wish Joel would've saved her honestly, since he did everything in his power to find her even while in pain and sick, but Ellie is also a fighter so it doesn't surprise me she was able to handle David on her own. Your dad was right about the vibe that David had when he grabbed her hand, it was pedophilic, like when David says "I see you as an equal" …that can be interpreted in many ways, like in his eyes, he sees her as an adult. Man, that last line hit me in the feels, "I got you, baby girl."
