The Last of Us - Disable gyroscope roll input

another one for the "who asked for this?" collection.

for whatever reason this game maps both the yaw and roll axes to horizontal aiming and provides no option to change it, which is unlike every other game that supports gyro aiming.

this mod fixes that, hopefully. made it in a couple hours so there might be some issues.

Installation

extract to the 'SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\The Last of Us Part I' directory

Note

While using Steam Input (e.g. on a Steamdeck) the yaw axis is interpreted as roll by the mod, and roll as yaw.

no matter, you can still test it by enabling Steam Input for your DualSense controller. You can either do it thru Steam Settings > Controller or, and I actually recommend it: via the Steam Library, go to your game's Properties > Controller and forcefully enable Steam Input for that game only. if the mod still works on Steam Input mode, then it'll work for these controller as well. (the power of abstraction-based Input API) Do note that this only applies in the Steam version of the game.

I don't own any other controller with gyro other than the dualsense so I can't check if they're affected

Does this mod also works when using Steam Input? This is important because The Last of Us Part 1 is a uncommon game that take advantage of the Steam Input systems while still being "legacy XInput mode". That means Motion Sensors functions (that includes the built-in Gyro Aimer) will work across all Controller Types, including Steam Controller, Horipad for Steam and of course: Steam Deck. edit: side note; Congrats for being the second (or third) mod that modifies the existing Gyro Aiming feature set...?
