Ch: 7 [Dream or reality!?]
Added 2023-07-18 19:05:45 +0000 UTCI wake up to the sound of a distant rumble, my senses immediately on high alert. As I groggily sit up, I realize that the rumbling is growing louder and more intense. Something is happening outside the vault.
I quickly gather my belongings and rush towards the entrance, my heart pounding with anticipation and worry. As I reach the vault door, I can feel the vibrations reverberating through the floor. The rumbling is accompanied by the sound of distant explosions and the unmistakable roar of engines.
With a surge of adrenaline, I push open the vault door and step outside, bracing myself for whatever awaits me. The scene before me is one of chaos and destruction.
A full-blown battle is taking place in the vicinity of the vault. Factions clad in various armor and armed with an array of weapons are engaged in a fierce firefight. Bullets fly through the air, explosions rock the landscape, and the air is thick with smoke and the scent of burning debris.
I take cover behind a nearby rock, watching the conflict unfold. It becomes apparent that two factions are locked in combat, each vying for control of the area. The sight is overwhelming, and I struggle to make sense of the situation.
I carefully observe the factions, trying to determine their identities and motivations. One group appears to be the Brotherhood of Steel, recognizable by their distinctive power armor and advanced weaponry. The other faction consists of raiders, their tattered clothing and crude weapons betraying their lawless nature.
As I watch, it becomes clear that the raiders are attempting to overrun the Brotherhood's position, seeking to seize their technology and resources. The Brotherhood, on the other hand, is fiercely defending their resources, unwilling to relinquish their hard-won assets.
Caught in the crossfire, I realize that I must choose a course of action. I could try to remain hidden and wait for the conflict to die down, or I could take a more proactive role and potentially influence the outcome.
Given my limited resources and unfamiliarity with the factions involved, staying hidden and waiting for an opportune moment might be the safer option. It would allow me to assess the situation more carefully and potentially gather valuable information about the factions and their capabilities.
I find a concealed vantage point and hunker down, keeping a watchful eye on the ongoing battle. From this position, I can observe the tactics and strategies employed by each faction, gaining insights into their strengths and weaknesses.
As the battle rages on, I notice a momentary lull in the fighting. It seems like both sides are regrouping and preparing for another assault. This could be my chance to slip away unnoticed and avoid getting caught up in the conflict.
However, before I could run, a grenade fell before me.
"FUCK!"
Instinctively, I dive away from the grenade, seeking cover behind a nearby pile of rubble. The explosion rocks the ground, sending debris flying in all directions. The sudden blast disorients me, making it difficult to assess the situation.
A sharp pain swept over my body.
What the heck!?
As I struggle to regain my bearings, the sharp pain in my body intensifies. I look down and see metal rods protruding from my limbs, impaling me from the explosion's impact. Blood trickles from the wounds, staining my clothes and the ground beneath me.
"Not again," I coughed out blood. My vision is going blurry. It's like history is repeating itself. Shit! Dying again... like this from a stupid grenade!
Everything went dark in an instant and a calmness swept over me. The pain is no more. I can't feel my body anymore. It's just cold and dark.
As I lay unconscious, darkness envelops me, and my mind drifts into a dreamlike state. Visions and memories intertwine, creating a surreal landscape that is both familiar and distorted.
In my dream, I find myself standing in a peaceful meadow, surrounded by vibrant wildflowers and a gentle breeze rustling through the grass. The sun shines brightly overhead, casting a warm glow on the idyllic scene.
So peaceful. No war, no destruction... Just calm and peace.
As I walk through the meadow, a sense of tranquility washes over me, momentarily easing the pain and turmoil of the real world. The worries and conflicts that plagued my waking moments are temporarily set aside, replaced by a serene and harmonious atmosphere.
I can't help but reflect on the nature of the wasteland and the struggles it presents. The constant battles for survival, the scarcity of resources, and the ever-present threat of danger weigh heavily on my mind.
But here, there is a respite from the harsh realities. The meadow represents a glimpse of what the world once was, a reminder of the beauty and peace that existed before the devastation.
I continue to walk through the meadow, the gentle breeze carrying whispers of forgotten melodies. It's as if the world itself is whispering to me, offering solace and hope amidst the chaos.
As I explore the meadow, I come across a small stream, its crystal-clear water flowing gracefully over smooth pebbles. I kneel down and cup my hands, taking a refreshing drink. The water was so clear and cool... So refreshing.
Is this heaven? I remember dying a moment ago... And this... I don't remember doing many good things to be able to gain entry into heaven.
As I ponder the nature of my surroundings, a figure appears in the distance. It's a silhouette bathed in light, emanating an aura of warmth and serenity. The figure approaches me, and as it draws nearer, I recognize the face that materializes before me.
I remember her. The love of my life. We were supposed to get married, but an accident took her away from me on the day of our marriage. "Trisa."
Trisa stands before me, her smile radiating pure joy and love. Her eyes sparkle with familiarity and a sense of longing. She reaches out her hand, inviting me to join her in this ethereal realm.
I tentatively reach out and grasp her hand, feeling a surge of warmth and comfort wash over me. The pain and anguish that plagued me just moments ago are temporarily forgotten as I immerse myself in the presence of my lost love.
We walk together through the meadow, sharing in a profound silence that speaks volumes. No words are needed to convey the depth of our connection and the shared memories that bind us together.
As we stroll along, I feel a sense of peace and contentment settle within me. Trisa's presence brings solace to my weary soul and offers a glimpse of a world untainted by strife and suffering.
In this dreamlike state, time seems to lose its hold. We continue to wander through the meadow, basking in the tranquility and beauty that surrounds us. It's as if the universe has granted us a brief respite from the harsh realities of life.
"You know, I have missed you," I said, unable to hold back any longer.
She looks at me with eyes filled with love and understanding. Her voice, though soft and gentle, resonates deeply within me. "I have missed you too, my love. Even in the darkest moments, you have carried me in your heart."
Tears well up in my eyes as emotions overwhelm me. The dream feels so real, so vivid, that it's difficult to accept that it is merely a temporary escape from the hardships of reality.
"I wish we could stay here forever, away from the pain and struggles," I confess, my voice quivering with a mixture of longing and sorrow.
Trisa's smile remains warm and comforting, but there is a hint of sadness in her eyes. "As much as we may desire it, my love, your time is yet to come and when it does, I will be waiting for you here. But, don't hold back your happiness for my sake. Find love and happiness..."
My heart aches at Trisa's words, torn between the desire to stay in this dreamlike sanctuary and the knowledge that I must face the challenges of the real world. I realize that this encounter with Trisa is a bittersweet gift, a reminder of the love we shared and the need to continue living, even in the face of hardship.
"But there is nothing to live for anymore... The world is destroyed... Let me join you," I urged as tears flowed from my eyes.
"Even in that destroyed world, hope lives on..."
What's going on? Why is she going away from me? Her body... She is disappearing.
"Wait! Don't go..." I yelled as I tried to run, but my legs won't move.
"Live... Jake... Survive..."
"Survive..."
The world turned upside down, throwing me into darkness.

Hufff!!! I jumped up and looked around. Fuck! What the hell was that? A dream?
As I catch my breath, I realize that I'm back in the familiar surroundings of the vault. The chaos and destruction of the battle, the meadow, and Trisa all fade away, leaving behind a lingering sense of unease.
I take a moment to collect myself, trying to shake off the remnants of the dream. It felt so vivid, so real, that it left me disoriented and emotionally shaken.
Unable to ignore the lingering questions and emotions stirred by the dream, I decided to journal about the experience, hoping that putting my thoughts and feelings into words will bring some clarity.
I retrieve a notebook and pen from my belongings and begin to write, capturing the details of the dream and the conflicting emotions it evoked. I find solace in the act of writing, allowing my thoughts and feelings to flow freely onto the pages.
Once I finish journaling, I sit back and reflect on the dream. My eyes fell on the pip boy, displaying time. It's 3 AM.
