Ch: 24 [Wand]

After the harrowing experience at Gringotts, Jack decided it was best to keep the details about his newfound ultimate spell system and his encounters with the spirit, Quix, a secret for now. He didn't want to draw unnecessary attention or raise suspicion among the magical community. With a newfound determination, Jack and his companions, Sara and Jax, continued their journey through Diagon Alley.

Their first stop was Ollivander's, the renowned wand shop. As they stepped into the quaint shop, the scent of aged wood and magic filled the air. The shop was dimly lit, and shelves upon shelves of wand boxes lined the walls, reaching up to the ceiling. A sense of anticipation tinged with nervousness settled in Jack's stomach as he approached the counter.

Hello!" Jack called out, his voice filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. He glanced around the shop, taking in the numerous wand boxes and the mystical ambiance of Ollivander's.

A tall, elderly man with silver hair and kind eyes emerged from the back of the shop, making his way toward Jack and his companions. It was Mr. Ollivander himself, the master wandmaker. He smiled warmly as he approached them.

"Welcome to Ollivander's, young wizard," Mr. Ollivander greeted them. "Ah! Jax! It's been a while. You have brought some young friends I see."

"Yes, sir. It's been 20 years," Jax acknowledged, a hint of nostalgia in his voice. "These are Jack and Sara."

"Jack! Jack Thornfield?" Mr. Ollivander narrowed his eyes.

"Yes, that's me," Jack replied, surprised that Mr. Ollivander knew his name.

"I have met your mother before," Mr. Ollivander continued, his voice filled with a mix of reverence and sadness. "She was a remarkable witch. It's a pleasure to meet her son. Now, I guess you haven't come here to reminisce about the past. Let me guess, you need a wand?"

Jack nodded, his curiosity piqued by Mr. Ollivander's mention of his mother. "Yes, sir. I do need a wand. But I also have something I'd like you to evaluate, if you don't mind."

Mr. Ollivander's eyes sparkled with intrigue. "Oh, an evaluation, you say? Well, you've certainly caught my attention, young wizard. Show me what you have."

Jack carefully reached into his pocket and retrieved the wand he had found in his parents' vault. It had a sleek black handle adorned with intricate silver designs.

Jack placed the wand on the counter, and Mr. Ollivander's eyes widened as he examined it closely. He picked it up delicately, turning it in his hands and studying its craftsmanship.

"An intriguing piece indeed. Humm... Interesting to see a wand not made by me..." Mr. Ollivander remarked, his voice filled with genuine curiosity. "May I?" he asked, gesturing for Jack's permission to perform a more thorough evaluation.

"Of course," Jack replied, a mix of anticipation and curiosity building within him. He watched as Mr. Ollivander carefully examined the wand, his experienced eyes scanning its details.

Mr. Ollivander's fingers traced the intricate silver designs, his touch gentle yet purposeful. He closed his eyes for a moment, seemingly lost in thought.

As Mr. Ollivander's examination of the wand progressed, his expression grew more serious. He seemed almost afraid as he held the wand in his hands, his fingers lingering on the intricate silver designs. After a brief moment of silence, he looked up at Jack with a mix of awe and concern.

"Young wizard, this wand... it possesses a core of Thestral's heartstring and the wood... Elderwood," Mr. Ollivander spoke in a hushed tone, his voice filled with a mixture of reverence and trepidation.

Sara's eyes widened as she listened intently to Mr. Ollivander's words. She tugged at Jack's sleeve, excitement brimming on her face.

"Jack, did you hear that? Thestral's heartstring and Elderwood! That's really special, right?" Sara exclaimed in a hushed whisper, barely containing her enthusiasm.

Jack nodded, his own excitement mirrored in his eyes. "Well, I have no idea."

Mr. Ollivander glanced at Sara with a smile, appreciating her enthusiasm. "Indeed, young witch, it is quite special. Thestral's heartstring is a rare and powerful core material, known for its connection to the mysteries of life and death. And Elderwood, ah... a wood of great significance, often associated with wisdom and protection. This combination is... unique."

Sara's eyes sparkled with wonder, absorbing every word Mr. Ollivander spoke. "Jack, you have a treasure in your hands!"

Mr. Ollivander gently placed the wand back on the counter, his gaze fixed on Jack. "Young wizard, this wand has an ancient lineage, a history that intertwines with powerful magic and tales lost to time. It is a wand of immense potential, but also great responsibility."

Jack's heart swelled with a mix of awe and reverence. He had never imagined that the wand he found would hold such significance. The weight of its power and responsibility settled upon him, and he vowed to honor it.

"I understand, Mr. Ollivander. I will respect and wield this wand with the utmost care," Jack said, his voice filled with determination.

Mr. Ollivander nodded, his expression softening. "Good. Remember, a wand is not merely a tool; it is an extension of the wizard who wields it. Treat it well, and it will serve you faithfully."

"Now, let's find the perfect match for you, after all, it would be better to hide that wand until you are strong enough to protect it," Mr. Ollivander said, his attention turning back to the task at hand. He moved behind the counter and began searching through the countless wand boxes that lined the shelves.

As Mr. Ollivander searched through the wand boxes, Jack and his companions watched with anticipation. Sara stood on her tiptoes, trying to catch a glimpse of the wand selection process, her eyes wide with excitement.

After a few moments, Mr. Ollivander paused, his hand hovering over a particular wand box. He carefully extracted the wand inside and turned to face Jack.

"I believe this might be the one," Mr. Ollivander said, a hint of excitement in his voice. He handed the wand to Jack, who took it with both hands, feeling a tingle of anticipation run through him.

The wand was crafted from a smooth, pale wood, with a slight curve and intricate carvings along its length. As Jack held it, a warmth spread through his fingers, as if the wand recognized its new owner.

"Give it a wave, Jack. Let's see if it responds," Mr. Ollivander suggested, his eyes focused intently on Jack.

With a mixture of excitement and nervousness, Jack took a deep breath and flicked his wrist, sending a swish of movement through the air. As he did, a soft, bright white light emerged from his wand, illuminating every corner of the Ollivander's shop.

"Oh, no... That's not good," Mr. Ollivander exclaimed, his voice filled with concern. The sudden burst of light caught the attention of everyone in the shop, causing heads to turn in their direction. Jack's heart raced as he realized he had unintentionally drawn attention to himself.

The light gradually dimmed, and silence settled in the room as everyone awaited Mr. Ollivander's assessment. The elderly wandmaker approached Jack, his eyes scrutinizing the wand and its reaction.

He slowly put the wand on the table.

"That's just a wave of bright light, nothing else," Mr. Ollivander's brows furrowed as he pondered the unexpected result. "Let's see..." He went back to the shelves, searching for another wand that might be a better fit for Jack. He returned with a different wand, this one made of a rich, reddish-brown wood with a sleek and elegant design.

"Give this one a try, Jack," Mr. Ollivander suggested, his voice filled with a mix of curiosity and hope.

Jack took the wand in his hands, feeling its smooth surface against his skin. He took a deep breath, steadying his nerves, and gave it a gentle wave. As he did, the nearby lamp turned on and off as if someone's flipping a switch.

"No, no, no... this won't do,"
Mr. Ollivander's disappointment was palpable as he took the wand back from Jack, his brows furrowing in deep thought. He returned to the shelves once again, determined to find the perfect match for the young wizard.

After a few moments, Mr. Ollivander reemerged with a third wand, different from the previous two. This one had a darker hue, crafted from a sturdy-looking wood with intricate engravings depicting various magical creatures.

"Perhaps this one will do the trick," Mr. Ollivander said, his voice tinged with a renewed sense of hope. He handed the wand to Jack, who held it with a mix of anticipation and curiosity.

As Jack gripped the wand, a faint pulse coursed through his fingers, almost like a heartbeat. Encouraged by this sensation, he cautiously waved the wand in the air. To his amazement, the shop's window suddenly sprang open, causing a gentle breeze to waft through the room.

Sara clapped her hands in excitement. "It worked, Jack! That's amazing!"

Mr. Ollivander smiled, his eyes shining with satisfaction. "Congratulations, young wizard. It seems we have found your wand. Twelve and three-quarter inches, dragon heartstring core, and made from Thunderbird tail feather. Quite a unique combination, if I may say so myself."

Jack's face lit up with joy and relief. He couldn't help but feel a deep connection to this wand, as if it were made specifically for him. He carefully handed the wand back to Mr. Ollivander, expressing his gratitude.

"Thank you, Mr. Ollivander. I appreciate your guidance and expertise. I'll treasure this wand."

Mr. Ollivander nodded, his gaze warm and approving. "Remember, young wizard, a wand chooses its wizard just as much as the wizard chooses the wand. Treat it with respect, and it shall serve you well."

"So, how much should I pay?" Jack asked.

Mr. Ollivander waved his hand dismissively. "No need for payment, my young friend. Your visit here today has been a unique and memorable experience for me as well. Consider it a gift from Ollivander's to a young wizard with great potential."

Jack's eyes widened in surprise and gratitude. He didn't expect such generosity from the renowned wandmaker. "Thank you, Mr. Ollivander. I'm truly honored."

Sara, who had been eagerly observing the entire exchange, couldn't contain her excitement. "Jack, you got an amazing wand, and it's for free! That's even better than a birthday present!"

Jack smiled at Sara's enthusiasm. "Well, I will buy you one when you get a letter from Hogwarts."

As Jack, Sara, and Jax left Ollivander's, the sun bathed Diagon Alley in a warm glow. Jack couldn't help but feel a surge of anticipation. He had a wand now, a wand with a rich history and immense power. It was time to buy the books.
