That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Goblin Girl Chapter 23

A girl with horns? Just who and what was she? I slowly made my way closer to her, trying my best not to make a sound. Luckily for me by the time that I found myself looming over her, she still had not woken up, and I noticed that she had more than just a pair of horns on her head. She had a black tail and the end was shaped like a heart.

She was super cute wearing a white shirt and black shorts. Her purple hair was a mess, but it oddly suited her. By the looks of it she was the same age as Sola and Tully, but it was hard to tell. Was she a monster girl or was she something else.?

I sat down next to the girl, curious as to what she was doing there. From my knowledge, the only monster girls here were Sola, Tully, and myself. Did grandfather change his hatred for monsters?

“Ngghh.” The girl began to toss and turn in her sleep. “M-mo-mother don’t… don’t g-go,” she said mumbling in her sleep, sounding as if she was having a nightmare. Did she also lose her mother?

I knew that it was dangerous to be near a strange girl with horns while she slept, but for some reason, I couldn’t bear to leave her alone. It was almost as if there was a strange urge to protect her from harm. Though that being said, I doubt I could do anything to protect her.

“Nggh! No… don’t eat that… stupid old man…”

“Hehehe~,” I couldn’t hold myself back from letting out a slight laugh upon seeing her drool while imagining eating some food. I pulled out the handkerchief that Auntie Sara gave me and began to wipe her face.

“Kyaa~!” I let out a scream as her hand grabbed mine and her eyes lit open.

“A mere bug dares tries to touch me!” The girl’s words were scary, but on the other hand, her voice was so cute that I couldn’t help but think that she was just joking with me.

“I’m not a bug!” I yelled back to her, trying to stand my ground, but she was much stronger than me.

“… That’s right… you’re not,” the girl said, observing me, still unwilling to let go of my hand. “You’re a goblin aren’t you?”

“What!? No, I’m not!” I yelled at her. There was no way that she couldn’t know. This had to be a trick of some sort.

“No your definitely a goblin. You may be a mixed blood, but you’re definitely a goblin,” she said, sounding as if she had seen other goblins before. “Though why are you drenched in witches magic?”

“What?” How much did this girl know? If only she wasn’t holding my hand right now I would make a run for it and call for help.

“Hmm, you are just a kid so you actually might not know,” she said, curiously running her hands through my hair. “Ugh, how much of this stuff have you been using? If it wasn’t me or my old man, I doubt any other monster would be able to tell that you were one of them.”

“Really?” I asked her, curious as to how strong Lilith actually was.

“…What is this? Why are your mana levels this low? It’s normal for goblins to have low mana levels, but yours are almost bone dry. That thing around your neck and that magic potion you covered in is draining you faster than you can handle. Give me this!” Before I could do anything, she ripped the necklace and it became harder for me to breathe.

“Pl-please g-ive…back,” It was hard for me to even talk right now, let alone resist her.

“Hmm, wow, you really are weak,” she said looking at the necklace while I was trying to grab it back from her. “How did you manage to continue wearing this with such weak mana levels? I’m sure that big brother would love to see this. …Oh right, almost forgot, here let’s get rid of this so you can breathe a bit better.”

A warm sensation washed over my body. The heaviness from not having the necklace disappeared and the weight of my body felt lighter. I don’t think that I even felt like this before. It was amazing!

“W-what did you do?” I couldn’t believe that something like this was possible. How could she do something like this?

“I just got rid of that disgusting potion,” the girl said, finally letting go of my hand. “To think that the witches were making a race change potion. They are crossing a boundary that would make the old man furious.”

“W-what?” I looked down and to my surprise, my skin had turned back to being green after three years! “No, no, no! Put it back!” I yelled at her. If this was gone then everyone would know what I was. There would be no way for me to live peacefully with my grandfather and Auntie Sara anymore. I didn’t want this!

“Aren’t you happy?” she asked me, not understanding what she had just done. “That potion was killing you. I would have thought that you would be glad to be rid of it. Hmm, I guess the old man was right, goblins aren’t that smart.”

“Killing me?” There was no way that she was telling the truth, and besides what did it matter when I looked like this? “Don’t lie!”

“Wait, you really didn’t know? That potion use was using was constantly draining your mana to give you the appearance of an elf girl. If you kept using it you would have been dead within the year. You should be glad, and besides doesn’t your body feel better now?”

“I-it does,” I said, realizing that she did help me, but how? She looked like she was ten or maybe twelve years old, yet she acted as if this was common knowledge. Was she some sort of genius? “But I can’t stay like this. Pwease, turn me back.”

“Turn you back? Why would I do that? Do you want to die?” she asked, looking at me as if I was crazy. “Are you really that dumb?”

“I need it. I need it to stay with my… my family. If I don’t look like them, they won’t be able to prowtect me. I don’t want to leave dem.”

“But you’re a goblin, why do you want to stay with humans in the first place? You should be of your own kind. Humans will kill you if they find out what you really are,” she said, stating what I already knew. “It would be better if you leave this place. You should come with me. I’ll protect you~.”

“No,” I said, shaking my head at her. I had to stay here; it was my home. And besides I couldn’t trust her. “I will stay.” There was no reason for her to protect me either. We didn’t even know each other’s names.

“Do you really know what you’re turning down here?” She looked surprised that I had denied her, but it would be crazy if I accept it. “I’m the daughter of a very powerful creature. You should be bowing in front of me~!”

“Pfft!” I couldn’t help but laugh at how cute she was right now. She looked like she was trying to act all high and mighty, but there was no way that could be true. If it was then why was she taking a nap in a garden owned by a human?

“What!?” Do laugh at me! It’s the truth!” she yelled, trying to convince me, but she wasn’t helping her case by acting like this. “My father is a man that can even make the puny human king crawl before him!”

“Hahahaha~! No way!” This was hilarious, there was no way that her father could make the king of the kingdom crawl before her father. This would never happen.

“Stop it! I’m being serious!” She looked like she was about to cry. Did I go too far by laughing at her?

“I’m sowwy, but if your daddy is as big and powerful as you say then he could make peace with the monsters and humans.” It would be nice if it could be done, but I didn’t have my hopes up. She was just a child with a big imagination. I bet she was just trying to make me look up to her.

“Peace? Why would you want peace? Human’s aren’t worth it,” she said back to me. “They hunt monsters down and enslave the ones they decide to let live. Goblins are the most hunted down of all monsters, but you want peace?”

“But, I’m human too,” I said to her, trying to sound mature, but my voice did little to help. I was just a four-year-old girl. For her to even listen to me was nice.

“That’s right, you’re a human too.” She looked at me with a curious expression across her face, I couldn’t tell what she was thinking.  “You’re not one, but two… peace… maybe.” She was mumbling and I could only make out a few words, making me even more curious as to what she was thinking. “I like you. You’re different from the others. …That’s it I decided, you’re going to be my friend~!”

“Friend?” What was she talking about? Where did the conversation before go? How could she ask me to be her friend all of a sudden?

“Hmm, you’re right, big sister would probably be better~,” she said, smiling at me before raising to her feet. “Hehehe~. Who would have thought running away from home would lead to this. Big brother is going to be so jealous!”

“Illya! Illya, it’s time to come out!”

“Auntie?” I could hear Sara’s voice getting closer, but I couldn’t let her see me like this. I had to do something. “Pwease turn me back!” I yelled at the girl, hoping that she could help me fix the mess she made.

“Really, after everything, you still want to go back to hiding who you are? I don’t know,” the girl said to me. “I already did a wonderful job as your big sister saving your life. What would I get out of undoing all the hard work I just did?”

“…Pwease, big… big sister?” I hated it, but I sucked up my pride and did what I had to do.

“Fufufu~. Well if it’s a request from my dear sister then I guess I have no other choice,” she said smugly grabbing my hand again, allowing a similar warm sensation to wash over my body. “But I’m not putting that stuff back on you. This should work the same, and it won’t need to be redone. And the best part, it won’t drain your mana.”

“T-thank you,” I said looking down to see that my skin was back to how it was before.

“Don’t mention it, anything for my little sister~. Though I will be taking this as payment,” she said holding the necklace Lilith gave me in her hands.

“Illya! Please come out for Auntie! You win!” Sara yelled, her voice sounding closer than before.

“It was nice meeting you little sis, I hope that we can see each other again real soon~.”

“Illya! There you are!” Sara yelled, finally finding me, turning me around to face her, before embracing me. “To think that you would be here of all places. Who were you talking to?”

“I was talking to…” When I turned around the girl was gone. Where did she go? “…I was talking to myself.” I doubt that she was supposed to be here in the first place, so I guess this could be our little secret.

“Alright then,” she said, picking me p into her arms. “It’s almost time for your nap, let’s head back inside.”

“Okay!” As my aunt started to carry me away I continued to look at the last spot that I saw the girl, wondering if we would ever meet again.
