Tour of the AREX Defense Factory in Slovenia (ad-free)

During my visit to Slovenia, I had a chance to tour the AREX Defense factory in Šentjernej. I came away really impressed by the quality and the breadth of operations that the factory performs in-house. They have only been making their own handgun designs for about 5 years, but they have been a subcontractor making parts for other big-name companies (like FN) for decades.

I don't remember his name but it's the main guy from Polenar Tactical.

This is great content. Send thanks to Arex for letting you bring us this view into their processes. Now I truly understand cold hammer forged barrels. 0% frames for the Zero pistol - nice dry humor.

Great tour, thanks! It's such a pleasure to get to see high-quality weapons being produced in a high-quality facility. Cheers!

I look forward to seeing the machine gun link process. A few years ago I was on a project for a company that made galvanized electrical conduit. Sounds similar - a 100'+ long collection of machines and processes there a huge roll of steel was loaded at one end and 10' lengths of conduit came out the other. Each step had about a dozen ways to kill or maim you if you weren't paying attention and the entire facility was filled with a zinc haze...

the start I can guess. worked injection molding for years. just simple laborer though. I kind of like their attitude. do all yourself so you know what butt to kick if something went wrong.

Audio volume drops drastically when you switch to the wrap up at the end. Can you fix that? Great insights on the manufacturing process!

One thing I've learned from watching FORGOTTEN WEAPONS and C&RSENAL is the complexity and importance of the tooling and manufacturing side of firearms. I always used to just concentrate on the finished product. Thanks for the great video tour. (Damn! Now I have to buy a Gen2 Arex Delta!)

This is how most factories should run! Also I'm curious to know who's the fellow who kept getting in the background photos was? 🤔

Paul Beck

That's a CLEAN factory!

Pat Patterson

Very cool, thanks Ian.

Absolutely fascinating. This is analogous to a small batch distillery. I am going to have to add one of their guns to my collection if for no reason other than their "small batch" uniqueness. Compared to other mass produced modern manufacturers, these guys are literally hand building their products. No wonder they have high quality. Ian, you have such a cool job!

John H

Yep. When you depend on 3rd parties, well you are dependent...

Great to see Vertical Integration in a factory. The "Lean" manufacturing models of "someone else can make this and that" have shown its weakness in supply chain problems.
