Roller-Delay Showdown: Angstadt MDP-9 vs H&K SP-5 (ad-free)

Today we are out at the range to compare the Angstadt Arms MDP-9 to the classic H&K SP-5. We will do a bunch of runs on a course of fire that incudes precision targets, spinners and stars, and see which of the carbines comes out ahead! Plus, as a bonus, some shooting with a suppressor and subsonic ammunition...

What kind of hearing protection is Ian using?

Watching over your "shoulder" - it seemed you were more accurate with the MPD-9. I noticed it on the first run and was wondering if it would last. It did - just seemed you were a bit more spot on than the H&K. It would have been interesting to know #of rounds used other than just mag empty - though timing infers that.

Ian, I am a southpaw & I don't have any issues with the left side safety lever of the AR-15 when switching from safe to fire. I find the placement of the safety lever is easy to operate with my left thumb without changing my grip on the pistol grip. I have a 1999 Colt A2 HBAR Sporter that except for installing an adjustable gas key is stone stock. I have built an AR-10 & 3 AR-15 lowers. Two have ambi safetys & one a mil-spec safety. My mussel memory has me using my left thumb to manipulate the safety.

Sorry if my comment seemed harsh -- not my intent. However, my expectation would be for any firearm in that price tier to perform flawlessly. Based on your (and other) review, I think Angstadt will have to come out with a "Gen 2" before very many folks jump in.

No worries - you say that like I have a vested interest in selling them...I don't. As I see it, my job is to present the gun with its good and bad features so people can make an informed choice about buying it (and simply so people understand what it is). If everybody decides that it's not with the money, that's just fine.

Forgotten Weapons

Sorry Ian, no dice. $2700 for a gun that jams and the BHO doesn't work is no bargain.

Larry Schwartz

No problem.

I appreciate it, but I did get a new trigger since filming this.

Forgotten Weapons

Nice gun, free is good. I have a nice 3lb trigger if you want to try it, it will fit your firearm, contact me if you want it, you should have the email address. In comparison with the SP-5 and the MPD-9, each has its pluses and minuses, as far as price point, they are equal, if comparing with an AP-5 (the MP-5 clone made in Turkey on H&K machinery) the MPD-9 is almost double. MP-5s and clones are heavier because they are steel and made to be robust. The MPD-9 is aluminum and polymer (if I watched the previous video correctly) as well as steel parts, so a lighter weight firearm. As far as the short forearm and barrel, not a fan without a hand stop on the forearm, my father shot his finger off while sighting in a firearm with a similar configuration (without the vertical grip). The plus for the MPD-9 is the ability to change out the trigger with a better one, SP-5 and clones, not so much. Ambi charging handle is a plus also.

How much less recoil do you notice on the roller delayed machines versus blowback 9mm ARs?

EyeBall

Clearly not schelling for either of those, so it must be hi point.😂😂😂 Great video. Hopefully you see the humor. Love what you do, thanks!

That was cool - Ammo seemed oddly smoky

adam

sp twice as much weight? but more roomy to grab. never saw a texas star yet. they look easier that they should on footage for some reason. not a huge fan of cans but that sounded cool right there! bshhhhhtt...
