The Sunk-Cost-Fallacy, or: What happened to Unseen Harbinger

You might have noticed the outrageous absence of new content or replies of mine and you might have asked yourself: did something happen? If so: what? And what about this freebie comic that's about a year overdue?

Well, to answer the first two questions: yes and: a lot.

I don't want to go too specific as the matter is rather personal. But short story shorter: I'm currently moving into the appartment where my grandmother lived in, after we found a spot in a beautiful nursing home for her. Not only moving, we gotta renovate the entire thing since it's fallen into disrepair over years of neglect and... madness.

I don't know if you've ever heard of the Collyer  Brothers, but what we found in this appartment reminded me a little of them. We always knew that grandma had a tendency to buy too much and never throw anything away. She survived the war and the hunger after all, and it stuck with her. But holy shit man... I've never seen so much junk in my life.

We've been carting off garbage, spoiled food and broken dishes and furniture for weeks now and we still have to remove hundreds of pounds more. After that we need to paint the rooms, since she's a heavy smoker and everything looks like the house was on fire. Most of the floors have to be replaced too, since she watered the plants too much and it seeped into the wood.

This all came very surprising and unfortunately took all my time and energy. At the end of the day I was so exhausted, I couldn't even muster the stamina to keep you guys in the loop - and I'm very sorry for that. We're under a bit of pressure to finish these renovations as well, since a new tenant for the appartment I'm currently living in will arive in November.

However, there's light at the end of the proverbial and literal end of the tunnel and in my "spare time" I'm finally working on the comic again - which leads to the next big big problem: I've made a bit of a mistake.

See, the comic already suffered from a lot of feature creep and overly ambitious images. In fact: it's the most expensive comic I've made so far! This ofcourse slows down the progress - and I know that's bad. Yet I couldn't bring myself to compromise this time.

Additionally - and this brings me back to the title of this post again - I made an oopsie. You see, ever since I've started doing this, I've always been dissatisfied with the stomach props I've got at my disposal. And this time I finally spent ~70$ for a high-detail-prop of which you can see a test-render above. You might now say: well, that doesn't look half bad, what is he talking about?  And here we hit the catch 22 of this whole debacle: It's only half a stomach - like you see in some medical models. I knew this, since the preview depicted it as such. What I didn't know was, that it's sliced really awkwardly. It's not a clean, vertical cut but curved and undulating, so that I couldn't simply mirror it and "glue it together".

To make matters worse, the high grade of details came back to bite me, because the massive amount of polygons makes it really hard to edit it, since blender (the programm I use to edit my 3D models) slows down to a crawl due to this.

And yet I'm not willing to just cut my losses and put this prop to the dustbin. 70$ is a lot of money and I can't just let it go to waste. Like I said: textbook Sunk-Cost-Fallacy. I will try my best to get it to work, even if it takes a lot of time. The rest of the comic is basically done, so once I finished this last piece, I'll be able to release it soon.

Please bear with me. I know I've stressed your patience for long enough. But I really hope the quality of the comic will make up for the long wait in the end.

Thanks Alex :) I actually don't know who's stomach it is :D but since I'll use the prop for Scarlett first, let's say it is hers :)

Good luck with your new living conditions. Take as long as you need Harbinger, we've been waiting about a year for the freebie, we can wait another. Also uhhhhh...who's stomach is this?
