According to Julie Plec, they had been planning a possible "Klaus fakeout" and they had also been trying hard to find Matt Davis a juicy story line. Kevin Williamson then came up with the Alaric twist. But it was also because they were having a hard time casting Klaus. Fun fact: Joseph Morgan (Klaus) was actually suggested by Paul Wesley (Stefan). They knew each other through Emily VanCamp, Joseph's girlfriend at the time who co-starred with Paul on the show Everwood. "I'm a little behind on the times but I believe that the term you're looking for is... OMG" is such a gringy but amazing line 😂 And Jenna knows! Btw, Elena and Elijah's ship name is Elejah.
