Dragostea Din Tei - early viewing

Hi!

This is one of the most requested covers. To this day I get messages every week asking for it. Many people have nostalgic memories with it, that’s because I’m also one of those people. I remember when I was on a holiday school trip, I was probably 12. In Poland we call it “Green School”. I don’t know why, but it was pretty popular back in the day. It was a type of vacation for people that couldn’t afford expensive trips. We were in a small beach town called “Jarosławiec”. The hotel was on a cliff and it had disgusting food (there were cockroaches there). All in all it wasn’t that great but during this time “Dragostea Din Tei” was getting massive airplay. You know, it was before the internet and social media. Every seaside shop, restaurant, every little worn out radio was playing this song. You couldn’t escape it. I had a walkman with all “The Offspring” cassettes, and I still was humming this song all the time. On karaoke nights our whole group was singing this song, and yeah Moldavian and Polish are two totally different languages. We didn’t know what the words meant, we were phonetically singing it. Also on the same vacation, on a mini-playback show, I took a broom and “played” one of the Offspring songs. What a time it was…

The second thing I want to write here is about this particular music video. While filming the first park guitar scene I heard clapping behind me after the finished take. I turned around and saw a guy waving at me. I waved at him and told him to come to us. He told us that this encounter just made his day 100% better. He was having one of the worst days of his life, because he got the results from his doctor that in the near future he is going blind. He wanted to get away from people for a few hours and just walk around the park to sooth himself when... he saw a familiar guy with a red guitar being filmed by a girl with a VHS camera. We talked for about half an hour, it was really great. I always love encounters with viewers or fans, because I’m the one feeling like an idiot most of the time, hehehe. Jokes aside I felt very inspired by this. Behind most of the comments, likes and views are real people. Retro Poland is maybe an imaginary place, but the emotions and nostalgia is real.

Cheers!

Great vibe again ! Thank you for sharing these wholesome pieces of life. It was also quite a big hit here in France and I have great memories to mind with this song !
