„Your opinion means very little here” – These are the words that made me quit my last band after 8 years of playing. For many people in the music scene, it would probably be a dream job – whole calendar full of gigs, loyal fans, band that plays very tight. For me, it was just a job. Still, I’m very grateful for all the experience and getting to know the Polish music business a bit more.
I’ve been through hell for many years, and I've seen some wild stuff. Suffered through lots of abuse. I even got used to it for some time and treated it as “whatever”. Had moments where I literally hated my life. But then, these words… They were like a hammer straight to my forehead. It was a wake-up call, or like a spark, to finally rip the band aid, and do my own thing. Once I gave my resignation, I repeated these words to the person who said them to me. The sad thing is, he didn’t even remember he said it…
The day I returned home after the last gig felt like the best day of my life. New life – new opportunities! That’s why on 31, may I uploaded the first Retro Poland video “Smoke On The Water”. It was just a funny idea after a joke during breakfast. I didn’t think it would succeed in any way, just a fun little video. The next video was Enter Sandman, and I don’t need to remind you what happened next. But yes, this long, overly sad and dramatic post is actually Retro Poland’s first birthday! I think we are allowed to celebrate at least once, right?
So let’s see… 200k Instagram Followers, 58k on Facebook, 980k on Youtube, 65k on Spotify and just this year 70k on TikTok! Also, the most important , over a 1000+ people joined my Patreon! Wow! Just… wow! I’m just going to say thank you all. I think that it’s true, that hard work pays off.
Thank you, my dear citizens! You keep Retro Poland alive!
