“NOOOO THE ORKS AREN’T FASCIST THEY’RE JUST FUNNY GUYS THAT SHAKE THEY BUTT!!!!!”””””— Guy who wants to pretend like Thanos wasn’t a Ork
Man, am I semiotically working the shit out the laugh-cry emoji in this comic or what? Just taking that fucker in my hand, and performing some linguistic Fushigi with it. (Do people remember those ads?) It’s a tonal signifier— one that seems to say “I’m dumb, but actually, you are.”
There was an unused segment about Tabletop RPGs, which I cut because I couldn’t really make it that funny. But the gist of it was:
Joke #1
-Nerd culture has gone mainstream, which is bad, because of Gamergate and Marble Moobies and ripped Kumail.
-But, this also means that Dungeons and Dragons has gone mainstream, which is good,
because DnD rules and it seems like everyone is involved in a campaign these days.
-But, THAT also means that Dungeons and Dragons PODCASTING has gone mainstream, which is bad, because the McElroy Brothers are really annoying, I guess?
Joke #2
-They have indie TTRPGS too, but those aren’t any good, because they rules are somehow always too simple AND too complicated, and game creators always insist on ditching traditional stats like Strength, Intelligence, and Dexterity for “abstract” stats like Attitude, Turpitude, and Verisimilitude.
Anyway— neither of those bits are really funny or fleshed-out enough to warrant their mean-spiritedness, even if there is a kernel of truth to them.
Sorry about showing everyone my cartoon ass. After drawing my character in it, I immediately felt like Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3 when he wakes up with the black suit on
