Maybe after spending time with the listener this lamia (who’s name we still don’t know) starting to gain a bit of her senses back after going a bit looney and possessive and now realizes what she did was wrong. Animal fact: in real life some snakes are known to eat their mates. Most notably, the green anaconda has been known to do this for the same reasons shown here.
