As to why his companion and the original Acnologia turned on the humans after visiting the other continent was due to them seeing first hand what dragon slayer magic was capable of. Seeing that it posed a threat to their race he betrayed them for his kind. Figured id explain this a little more as it is never mentioned again or delved further into it. Kinda sad really. Acnologias whole story and character felt rushed at the end but still an absolute amazing villain. Hope this helps clear things a bit
