SOUND KAPITAL: Serve The People

Here it is...the longest one yet. Topics discussed: the PLA, risky touring, the limits of change, civil war, bass, dancehall, friendship.

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm back up and running with a new almost fully operational studio. Cleveland...what can I say? What a town. Been doing a lot of yardwork and grilling. Should have another one of these up soon and some new music as well.

Thank you Dan for putting this together. I love how you walk us through every detail during this phase of your life and all things relevant when you wrote one of my favorite Dan Boeckner songs! ❤️

I don’t think I knew the whole story behind the song, but I do think that the significance of those experiences, what they meant and how they changed you, come through in the music and the lyrics, so we *feel* the story even if we don’t *know* the story (if that makes sense). I’ve also always found it really hopeful, which is needed sometimes (all the time?). Anyway, fave HF song ❤️ Thanks for doing these!

Hey Derek that’s a great idea! I’ll bounce a mix of each episode and have them up as mp3 attachments under each post.

not to make more work for ya but it'd be cool to have downloadable mp3 versions of these. i mostly want to listen to stuff while out and about but my crappy old phone dies pretty fast streaming hour long videos from patreon 🙏

Fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences & Darko’s story x

worthy of every second. Probably my favorite handsome furs song. Lovely to hear the full backstory. fortunate to have heard it live a few times. It should be the set closer everytime. :) The specificity of the experience writing it and recording it, where it came from, strangely makes this song universal. The sad state of american affairs makes this a tune we should have the blues brothers pumping on a loudspeaker outside the white house for the next 3 1/4 yrs.

Thanks for sharing again. It’s like a spoken documentary. So good and frustratingly tragic.

The best!
