Heeey, everyone!
Ligia here. Welcome to another monthly devlog. This one will be a lot longer and more detailed, so get ready! Since we’re so close to the end of the game, I want to share with you my plans for the next months and what you can expect during that time. ^^
I did my absolute best to remove all the spoilers, but please proceed with caution if you didn’t play the supporters build, haha! XD
If you’re enjoying the game and want to support my career, please consider subscribing to my Ko-Fi/Patreon. If you can’t (which is totally okay), please share the game with a friend and/or rate it so it can reach other people! ♥♥♥
First of all, with a new month comes a new supporters’ build (which is now ~235k words long, yay!). In this one, you’ll see:
The end of Mandra’s battle route, and the first sign that Knight Valência’s theory might be way more true than your DC wanted to believe.
The characters’ reunion (rewritten to include more stuff) before the final battle, with hints of how they fared without your DC.
A sweet (first or second, depending on your route) interaction with the little *****n. She might even tell you her name, hehe ;)))
(depending on your route and choices) Some characters will already start treating your DC differently, mainly Melike/Kastian and Knight Henrique. These will carry over to the next game.
I finished coding and implementing the damage that the cast (and castle) will take, depending on how long your DC took to finish the chosen battle route. You can already see some of these in this update, but the thick of it will appear in the next one. I did my best to balance it, but I still think I’ll need to adjust it for our next supporters build.
My main objectives with these battle routes were, on one hand, to introduce some of the problems, themes, and characters who will carry over to the next game and, at the same time, to show DC themself how competent they can be. Although the battle routes are very action-heavy, there are also a lot of subtle hints, hidden (or very clear) feelings, and heartaches in them, so I hope you had fun playing them!
Also, every route is completely different from one another. If you’d like all the hints and puzzle pieces for the final battle, please consider playing all of them! They also have a different flavour depending on who your character chose to share guard duty!
But yeah, now that they’re done, there’s A LOT of variables to take into consideration. The final battle will be very programming-heavy cause ALL of the consequences to your choices will come into play now, buuuuuut (and while I don’t want to make any promises) I think I’ll manage to finish the game this month!!!!! AAAAA! Took me a while, I know, sorry.
After finishing it, I’ll need some more time to fine-tune the battle routes (lots of variables), but the story, I believe, will be finished! c-ç ♥♥♥
So… what can you expect from the next update?
Drama, revelations, and some choices with far-reaching consequences (if you stood guard with Mel and Kas in Murmo’s room, you know this is the moment she cautioned you about).
A respite from the action-heavy battle routes! Phew! I LOVE writing action, but after so many months working on these battle routes, I really can’t wait to move on to the final battle… which, despite its name, is something completely different. Expect a lot of tension!
I’m also considering writing a “final night before the final boss” kinda scene (a staple in RPGs like DAO, ME, PoE, DOS, etc), but I don’t think I’ll be able to do THAT and the final battle in one month, so I’ll leave that idea in my backlog. My main goal is to finish the final battle; once that’s ready, then I’ll definitely add some fluff with Mand or fluff/spice with Matt, cause I’d love to. ;)))
All right. Next item on my list xD… after the game is ready, what will I do?
As soon as I finish the game, I’ll put LtGBtK in the ice box that is my heart, and I’ll leave it there for one month. This means I won’t work on it for a while—it’s something I usually do with my books. I need some distance and rest to make sure that my editing process will be faster and more precise.
During that one month, I’ll work on writing the usual extra content for Ko-fi/Patreon………… and at the same time, I’ll finally start outlining Ward the Dragon, Love the King. 8DDD YEEEESSS!
During that month, I’ll also:
Adjust, fix, complement, or rework my sprites. I also want to create some “hurt” sprites, so the battle routes will feel a little heavier.
Add more CGs, mainly in my action scenes.
Adjust, fix, complement, or rework my BGs.
Then, once I have some rest, I’ll work on my absolutely favorite part of story-writing:♥♥♥ Editing. ♥♥♥
And one extra question: when will I release the next public build?
August 31st! Yaaay!
sighs All riight. I think this is all I wanted to cover in this devlog. Tomorrow is Monday, which means I’ll be right back to working on the last battle, hehe.
On Thursday, I’ll post a nice poll on Patreon/Ko-Fi/Tumblr so you can help me choose this month’s extra content. This month, I’ll also post a nice short story showing you all a little more about Yulie + some fluff with Matt.
Aaaaand that’s it for this devlog!
I hope you’ll all enjoy this new supporters build aaaaaaaand the new public build, which is coming soon! ;))) Please stay safe and healthy wherever you are. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to leave a comment or DM me! ^^ If you want to give me feedback, but don't know exactly what to say, I'm working on a nice feedback survey you can fill out whenever you feel like. I'll release it in the next weeks. ;)
As always, you can find me on Patreon, Ko-Fi, Tumblr, and now on Bsky as well, where I post some art, some news, and a lot of non-sensery xD haha! If you're there too, come say hi! :))) ♥
Big hugs,
Ligia
