I have a glorious week ahead - school's out for Carnival, so as long as doors and windows are barred and locked to keep out the "fun guerilla" with their booze and abysmal music, I'm all set. I went to do the shopping yesterday, and bought enough so we should survive until Tuesday without having to leave the house.
If you've no idea what Carnival in Germany is like and why it frightens me so much, I have found a Youtube video of the "Prince Proclamation" from my husband's hometown that displays just the right mix of stony-faced, slightly alcoholised people in ridiculous costumes that'll make you understand why I'll rather starve than leave the house until this is all over. (They even walk through the streets, and probably the only thing that keeps Carnival from being shut down by a #MeToo backlash is the fact that both male and female revellers rarely remember the previous day.)

2018-02-07 14:26:26 +0000 UTCI know! I'm from northern Germany, and for me, it was an opportunity to dress up as a kid, until you grew out of it at about fourteen. There used to be one disco in Bremerhaven that had a Carnival party (which I always saw as a rather thin excuse to get drunk). Then I moved the Cologne. Culture shock. XD

2018-02-07 11:36:14 +0000 UTCCarnival always makes me feel happy I live in the northern part of the country, where this isn't a thing at all (except for some small villages easily to avoid) instead of the southern part, where it is pretty much the same as in Germany XD
