Dark circles under everyone's eyes
Added 2016-01-10 01:09:09 +0000 UTC... it's 2 AM here, so though I feel I could plough right on and finish this by 5, I very probably shouldn't. Though the dark circles came really naturally to me just now. If only I could stop squinting!
It's weird to draw a face with a structure I've literally never drawn. The lineart looks wrong and I can't put my finger on why - and then I do the shadows around his eyes and under his mouth and there he is.
Troels, happy with the added greasiness? ;)

I love Rey. I'm not sure I'll manage to draw her though - she has a face I know I'll have trouble with. But I did her triple buns on my daughter, haha!

When I've stuck with a single subject for more than a year, I've fallen into a comfortable set of colours, textures, and techniques - and when I branch out into something new, there's something that needs changing. Here, it was drastic - more realistic faces, more realistic lighting that requires light on dark paint, and well - dark paint in the first place! I broke out the liquid watercolours for the darks here, and I'm so glad I did.
