Happy scrawling!
The first post explains why Dungeon Scrawl V1 is so bad, and how the next version will be better. Have a read!
In the future I'll be putting up development progress and miscellaneous Dungeon Scrawl-y things in a bit more detail than the updates on social media, so subscribe to the blog if you're interested in all that.

The Hex Grid update is out now! Find it in the background style panel.
Here's what else has changed:
I didn't have access to my printer until now so I couldn't try it.
It works pretty well! 6 A4 pages, 1in cell size, 1.5in margins - Sharpie for scale.
I've run out of black ink so had to print in blue.

Small update out for Dungeon Scrawl, adding a new save preset: 'Inverted Hatching'.
Go to 'Presets -> Inverted Hatching' to load the preset - it'll show you how to build a map like this that uses inverted hatching to create outside walls and a custom-placed grid.
There are some small bug fixes too:
Hi all! I just started a Facebook page, it would really help me out if you gave it a like!
It's also the best way to contact me, since messages go straight to my phone (I've found the Patreon messaging app to be a bit unreliable).

Available for alpha testers now!
On image layers you can use grouping and snapping, here are the shortcuts:
- 'g' to group or ungroup
- 's' to toggle snapping
- 'Shift+s X' to set the snapping fraction, where 'X' is any number, e.g. 'Shift+S 2' to set snapping to a 1/2 grid. You press 'Shift+S' together, release, then press 2.
These assets are from the 2 minute tabletop 'castle walls' pack, I should be able to include them in the tool once I sort out better...
2020-07-10 12:52:22 +0000 UTC View PostI just got the go-ahead to release the future standalone version of Steam, here's the roadmap:
- Rework how images are handled
- Inbuilt maps gallery
- Port it to a standalone version and polish up the interface (tooltips, translations etc)
- Release on Steam + itch.io
Anyone who has a lifetime pledge of £10+ will get a key! Cartographers will get extra keys to do whatever they like with.
I haven't set a deadline or release date, but this should all take l...

This has now been pushed to the patreon version of the tool! Use the sliders in the image panel to tile images in the x and/or y directions. Select a dungeon layer as a clipping layer, and you can make images only show up when within dungeon geometry defined by that layer (basically a layer mask).
By making a dungeon background transparent, you can use tileable 2 minute tabletop assets to create maps like these.

The 1.2.0 update is live now on the public version of the tool! Here's what has changed:
Bug Fixes:
Hey all! On your private version of the tool this update is already out - all the assets you see here, and more, are included in the tool. Add an image layer, and you can select different artists in the top left to access inbuilt assets.
2020-06-27 21:17:52 +0000 UTC View PostHi all! Thanks to your support I'm able to release the open beta soon! I'll post again when it's ready, it will be on my own website and there'll be a better usage guide.
In future I'll find a way to give Patron rewards within the tool, I'm looking into ways of giving you access to exclusive asset packs.
Make sure to join the Discord server to take part in some community events!

My exams are over! Which means I'm free to develop the tool, here's what I've been up to over the last couple of days:
- Add image layers
- Upload images (multiple at once)
- Position, scale, rotate images
- Move layers up and down
- Copy paste images/groups of images
- Hold shift to select multiple images
- Send images to the front/back with the arrow keys
I've also added a new export option: you draw a rectangle and get a PNG file w...

Last exam tomorrow, after that I'll be free to develop dungeon scrawl! Here's what I managed in-between exams today, image upload is working, I still need to implement some image layer stuff, as well as copy-paste for images. Should be ready for alpha testers soon!

This is quite a major update in terms of the back-end structure, here's a short summary of what you can now do:
Thanks for voting, Dungeon Scrawl has emerged victorious. Now that the name has been chosen, I've made a subreddit for the tool and renamed the Discord. Join here:

Hey all!
New Features:
Mirror tool: This is still a work in progress, but you can use it with 'm'. Draw a mirror line, and the geometry will be reflected. I have use it to create symmetrical mazes. I aim to include a preview outline.
Layers export: There's a new download type in the 'Downloads' folder - layers. This should make it much easier to post-process the dungeon, and there's also a mask layer.
Name voting will be closing ...

It has been a productive couple of days, here's what is now available on itch.io for early access:
- Pan + zoom working properly with an infinite canvas
- Maze generator (in future you'll have more control over the shape and placement, at the moment you can specify the size)
- Door tool, press 'd' to use it
- Behind-the-scenes performance improvements
And here's what I have experimented with but not yet put up for early access:
- Stippling shadin...

I've implemented redo as well as undo - use it with Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y (Command on Mac)
The edit history is now 20 edits long, I'm looking into extending this once I know how it will impact performance.

The dungeon sketcher I'm currently developing is in early access to patreons. Bear in mind that the UI is rough, and brushes and brush modes are currently only changed through keyboard shortcuts. This is being constantly improved though, and I look forward to your feedback and feature requests!
