Lightsabre fun

Did three practice lightsabres in different techniques before settling on this one - and then botched the first attempt and started again. But yay, this'll be so worth it. So far, all my watercolour Star Wars art was comic-like cell shading, but this one lends itself surprisingly well to watercolour! I'm so happy with it.

Wet watercolour always glows so much more than when it's dry - it's already dulled down a little by now, sadly, but the white centre will give it back its punch. (I am ambivalent about his glowy cross hilt in the movie to be honest because that's just gilding the lily. Why do you even need a hilt? Also, it's just like, what, you're going to grab a lightsabre by the ummm laser beam to do a murder strike with your mini laser beams? Yeah, I don't think so! No hilt bludgeoning options there, and it looks like a great way to accidentally wound yourself. One slip of the wrist or moment of lazy arms and WHOOPS! You didn't really want to use that thigh later did you? At least it'd be instantly cauterized. Yuck.) Aside: I think the British spelling is 100% fine. Lightsabre or Lightsaber, both are correct, and everyone will know what you mean.

2016-01-09 22:42:15 +0000 UTCThat was intentional, yes - There'll be red light reflecting off him, too, which will augment the effect. (And give me a run for my money! Maybe gouache will have to make an appearance...)

2016-01-09 22:06:26 +0000 UTCThis has an interesting effect - he's hunched over and injured, so you expect blood, but the blood red on the picture is the light saber instead. I quite I like that.
