The likely reason landscape mode worked is because some websites have pacific 'breakpoints' aka certain ranges of horizontal/total resolution that trigger a different layout/styling. Usually used to make websites "mobile friendly". In my experience, these breakpoints and alternate layouts aren't typically well-tested or maintained after implementation. Mom said to mind my business, but I could tell it was bothering her too. Hours went by, an hour before the sunrise is when I felt my bed vibrate. The steps creaked as someone creeped up them. It was dad of course, but why feel the need to hide. I was gonna open my door and talk to him, but something told me not too. A gut feeling. Something in the back of my head screaming, it’s wasn’t him. So I waited. Hearing the creak of each step slowly getting closer. Then the smell reached me. I’m still not sure how to describe it. Like piss and sawdust sitting in the sun . Getting stronger as it reached the top of the stairs. Slowly it walked by my room, and the I heard the bathroom door close. The smell still lingering in the air. I opened the door to see the hallway empty. Except for light that was bleeding from the bathroom. It smelled even worse in the hallway. “Sweetie”. I looked down the stairs to see dad. Wearing the same suit. Now covered in stains, small tears revealed themselves. He gestured for me to go back to sleep. I asked who was in the bathroom. I remember the tears that began to fill his eyes. I’ve never seen him cry before. The only thing he said was “Cosmo”. Before running up the stairs and ushering me into my room. Closing the door behind me. I was about to protest, but the smell got stronger. Then I heard the bathroom door open. My dad whispered to it. I couldn’t hear over its breathing, panting as my dad talked. The only thing I could make out him saying was,”Getting something like that is impossible”. A few minutes later, there was a moment of silence. Even the panting stopped. Until I heard,”Take it. Open. Door.”. The voice sounded like my mom, but it was raspy, as if she blew her voice out and was trying to talk. Before I could do anything, scratching emitted from my door. An animal begging for attention. Quickly I got back in bed, and pulled the covers over me. My door slowly opened. “Meow”. I peaked to see Cosmo entering my room. Crying. He jumped on the bed and curled up next to me. I didn’t sleep. Dad’s words playing over in my head, “Cosmo”. Who looks normal now on my bed. But the smell followed him. He’s purring now, and the sun is about to come out.
