2015-09-09 21:02:03 +0000 UTCExactly my thoughts as well! It was a difficult balance to strike, but at least the only Dark Elf we know from the Sil has provided us with precedent of a mean streak - or at least some badassery.

2015-09-07 18:37:42 +0000 UTCI like how they look wild and tribal, and their clothing is modeled on their surroundings. They were still miles ahead of newly Awoken man as far as culture went, but far behind the Eldar who went to Valinor or even the Iathrim of Beleriand. I imagine like many of the Nandor, they were a wholly unlettered folk and would have learned from each other through stories and songs. I like it a lot. ^_^ There is not enough source material on the Avari. I find Eöl to not be a proper 'model' of wild Elves because he was jealous and mean-spirited. I don't think the Avari were mean. They were just frightened of Oromë and did not trust the Valar after their experiences with the Dark Hunter (Melkor) stealing some their brethren and his foul beasts causing them woes. They wanted to protect their own and keep to themselves. That's how I saw it anyway.

2015-09-07 14:43:00 +0000 UTCIt's weird - I feel like, this summer, I've finally broken through to another level with my artwork. I'd felt that I'd been walking on the spot since 2012. It was a very nice spot to walk on, mind, and I was quite happy with it, but this piece really feels like a step up again - and wow, is that making me happy. I think I should work with looser groundwork more often (the digital skatch for this was extremely basic). I've been too scared to work loose for,,, a decade?, but maybe it's time again.
