[Ep 1.18] Almost there...

Hey guys!  I was hoping to complete all the writing last week, but I wasn't able to do so.  😔  I've been having problems with a sex scene coming out a little flat and forced (and not in the hot way, forced as in it felt like none of the characters in the scene wanted to go through with it).

Fixing it was complicated a bit by the fact that two testers had told me they really liked a certain vivid part of the scene, so I was loathe to edit it out.  I ended up trying to build a slightly different scene around that one vivid moment, but it didn't really work.

The most essential gift for a good writer is a built-in, shockproof, shit detector. –Hemingway

Fuck it, I deleted it (we can always repurpose it for a later scene where it'll fit better).  Yesterday I just wrote a different outline for the scene, focused more on the character relationship and the heroine's internal emotional state, and I think it'll be hotter.  I'm aiming to get this new version of the scene rewritten today!

Other stuff

Okay, that's it, I'm gonna get back to writing!  We're almost there!

[Ep 1.18] Almost there...

Why did NASA spend so much time and money on SLS? Isn't it easier to build more Saturn V rockets? It turns out it has 1 million parts produced by many different suppliers. Not all of those factories exist today and they have different equipment and not always use the same materials. And that means engineers will have to create new designs, do new tests, then compatibility test with other parts, flight tests, etc. In the end you'll be redesigning and rebuilding the whole thing. It may be not as bad in our case, but I'm sure it's not just copy/paste. Some things from old engine won't work, some variables from current implementation will have to be added, illustrations to be adapted or remade, maybe some other stuff too. And then the author will have the temptation to improve or redo some scenes ))) That's my point. I'm not against refactoring, just saying it should be approached carefully.

As a big fan of the main story, esp. as it concerns the transition to bargirl, this is excellent news. I can't wait to put my paws on this update and thankfully it seems almost at the gate. Thanks for all your good work.

It's basically a mini-episode bridging between the end of Girls' Night Out, and the first side quest. For pacing reasons we need a return to the club between GNO and the side quest (otherwise it'll feel like the heroine's mission is on hold while she's gallivanting around partying with the girls and doing side quests).

Thanks so much 🥰

Hey guys! I do intend to link the backstory up with the main story in the future. I'll write more about this in a dev post Soon™ (probably after this episode comes out).

Crushstation

Good news, but just remind me: is the next update about any one of the three side missions, a prelude to the same and a bridge from the girls night out, or a mix of both? I lost track of what the upcoming update is about.

I agree. The greatest enemy of good is "better"

Looking forward to it! But remember to take some time for yourself to rest. As much as we want new stuff, burnout does nobody any good.

I don't understand your argument. The author did remake the art engine several times. That's what I'm asking about. If the content already written in the old game can be added into the current one. I just assumed porting old content over and adding bits to connect it to the current timeline would be less work than struggling to write new scenes. And even give them a breath of fresh air so they can come back to writing more of the current time line later.

Are you not scared of the amount of work (= time) this will demand? I want to see different parts of the game combined sure, but the cost matters. It's easy to fall into a refactoring black hole: "the illustrator left, so we're going to redo all the illustrations in a new style with new illustrator" or "we're going to create new awesome engine for dynamic scene illustrations" or "I need to review the whole game, rewrite some scenes and characters and make the game ready for Steam release" or "I'll be rebuilding the game from scratch because I am so much better at rendering now and know much more about making games, it's gonna be awesome" or "we've reached the limitations of our current engine and need to rebuild the game on a new one". All those cases and many more are not scam (in some cases it almost feels like it), but a thing to be avoided if possible. Are those changes really needed, will they be worth it? It's a question, but one thing is sure - no new content will be added while the team is working on it. Authors have good intentions, but most of the time they are not industry level professionals and have trouble estimating the cost and results of proposed change. Maybe some of them find an opportunity to work on something they are interested in personally (and not produce content which became boring with time) or run from task they have trouble doing, I am not sure. Making games is hard, writing is hard, creating something new is hard. don't make it even harder. A finished project, even if not ideal, with half images from one illustrator and another half from another or with engine limitations or something else is better than forever stuck in development or abandoned. I think it would be wise to approach any refactoring with caution.

Could you add the old stuff back in? The training missions and uni stuff with all the sex scenes included. Maybe going back and connecting the old stuff to the new will be fresher and easier to write.

Sheriff Uchiha

Ok, get back to writing, and stay productive. I'm glad you're almost ready to release the update
