Monday sprint report

Sprint target: release 1.5 (avatar upgrade)
Days worked: 30/31 | Pomodoros logged: 250
Task points completed: 108/248

More avatar clothes today. There's a ton of work still to do, but it's very rewarding seeing the outfits making their way into the game. We're grinding them out as fast as we can!

I have to work at my real job tomorrow, but I'm clear for the rest of the week. The next dev day is Wednesday and Victoria is working in the meantime.

We also use MoSCoW in iteration planning, but within a sprint things tend to come up outside of a formal MoSCoW process and we sort of have to decide if it bumps something else out of scope.

amazing!

I was taught the MoSCoW method (Must, Should, Could, Would) which works in a similar way. It's easy to overwork things so having a method that works is probably key. It won't turn into a Duke Nukem Forever otherwise, but seeing your work progress in a nice pace is a good feeling.

I, for one, welcome our new glammed up agents. <3

At my company, when we get scope creep on a story like that, we split the card out into the additional efforts with their own point estimates and a “scope creep” label. That may not fit your estimation philosophy if you’re focused on determining what your average velocity will be over an entire milestone, but in our case we’ve found it nice to be able to estimate how many points of scope creep we can expect.

Notalie Portman

That one is a user request :-D

A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever. Better to make it worth it instead of not being satisfied with the product. Feature creep isn't good either, so some things could be cut in order to speed up the development process. But not many I reckon.

I snorted at "As the player, I want my agent to have Resting Bitch Face" xD

Yeah, the tasks in the first two columns are the ones we're still working on. I'll do a proper post mortem after 1.5 releases, but the problem is that I underestimated the amount of task points required to complete all the tasks. For instance, the task "Make the agent's symmetry & body proportions look right" was scheduled for 8 task points – at the start of the project, I thought a day's work would be enough to implement some already drawn artwork and redraw the 6 bra sizes. Once on the ground, though, this turned into days and days of drawing and redrawing boobs, changing the shoulders, changing the hands, etc. By the time we'd finished, the body looked so different that we also had to redraw all the Lifepath artwork so that it looked like the same character growing up. The results will be better for all this extra work, but I'm not happy about the delay. I'm just going to focus on getting 1.5 out ASAP, but I'll reflect on it afterwards and publish my thoughts about what could have been done better. I don't know whether I should be a more ruthless project manager and just cut more aggressively in order to make the timings? But then the avatar would have ugly boobs for the rest of the game, which is surely not a sensible thing to trade for a few days. It's difficult knowing how to balance it right.

I think if you look at the Trello, you can see all of the items still on the "To do" list.

140?

Notalie Portman

A whole sprint and you still have 240 task points to go? what are those?
