Dominik - What I tested on this head

These are a few of the new things I tried on this guy.

Eyes:

I wanted to do a kemono styled eye without the 3D look and smaller. I love the look of the kemono suits but they tend to be huge eyes also making the heads larger. I wanted to mix the look to create a glossy eye but closer to my art. Overall I love the look and will continue to do this mostly on auction suits since the eyes are way more involved than my typical eyes. They will fog up from the inside, never seen on the outside but it will fog up a bit in more humid locations. Since I am in florida I see dealing with a bit of fogging on this head mostly because I did not add a fan system inside. Overall the vision is great with these eyes which is pretty nice seeing as the eye is also protected from the elements. But the look is exactly what I wanted.

Nose:

I wanted a sewn nose with nostrils for this head. I am working on a tutorial on how to make noses that look like this. But the nose is made out of a soft pleather which is gorgeous but sadly really weak. I want to find a material like this that is a bit more durable if the nose gets touched a lot. I see it lasting ok as long as "sharp" objects don't touch the nose since it can scuff the pleather pretty easily. The nose itself has magnets inside the nostrils. I will be modeling a nose ring in 3D and printing it to attach it.

Teeth:

Decided to do sewn teeth for this guy. I love the look but I definitely plan to attach them differently. I sewed them directly to the fleece before I had glued the inner mouth fleece down. I did it by hand but I want to approach this method differently by sewing it with the machine next time. The teeth are made out of white mochi fabric with soft and stable as a backer and a bit of polyfil. The soft and stable I like to use can be ironed on, making it a lot easier to work with. I get my soft and stable local at Joanns along with the white mochi fabric (it's like minky but with extra stretch and the fabric isn't as fuzzy, giving it more of a velour look).

The head base:

A new slender cast. I designed this one to have a longer smile line and kept it more angular all around. It was modeled in Zbrush, mold was printed and casted in foam. I went with a more stylized route this time to see if it would translate well and I think it worked. I will be selling these bases soon, they work well for foxes, jackals and any longer snout canines. The nose is very defined in these casts making it easier to make the nose look like the finished head.

Ears:

I wanted swayed out ears but not completely back. I like the wider look the swayed out ears gave it so I bulked up these ears so they had a thicker base and thinner top.

Eyebrows:

I love fur eyebrows but also love how clean a felt eyebrow can look but hate how flat it comes out. So I wanted an in-between of crisp like a felt eyebrow and soft feeling like a fur brow without the overly fuzzy look. I made these brows out of minky ironed on soft and stable backing to create a more 3D look. Will be creating a tutorial on how to make these. The nice thing is you can even attach magnets on these if you wanted theses to move around.

Whisker spots:

Cut out of hard black felt and sewn on to the fur. I usually glue these after the head fur has been glued down but decided not to this time. I had cut out the front muzzle fur and before I glued it onto the head I cut out the spot and sewed them on top of the fur. It gave it extra bulk and no issues with glue sticking out plus durable.

Hair:

All the parts were attached in "chunks" to create a more layered look. I wanted height and texture so I created a mohawk (stuffed with polyfil for the hair) and then added extra "chunks" on the sides. The "chunks" are sewn fur pockets that look like small empanadas (stuffed) in white and black.

Overall I am happy with what I tried and will definitely implement some of these in auction suits in the future for sure. Some of these options such as eyes will be available for commission in 2022 as I still want to work on making these eyes better/faster to be able to fully offer them.
