Dragon 3D base coming soon and New Mold Type

Dragon base has printed and ready for clean up and make the plug that goes inside. So this print is a little different than the typical way of making a mold. Usually I print the positive and silicone to create a mold to cast in foam. This time I am doing the negative to cast directly into the 3D print.

So why are we doing it this way? To save time and overall save money on silicone. Since most of the heads we are casting are going to be done in expanding foam there is no real need for doing silicone and mother mold if we do it this way. It does take a few days to print each side but the results should be worth it. We still need to treat it like we would any mold and use mold release, clamp the 2 sides together, put the expanding foam mix inside and put a plug to avoid bubbles.

The print doesn't need to be crazy clean since we will be casting in foam and the overall shape will be covered in fur/fleece. We wanted to try this way to speed up the process in making new molds to use and keep offering new looks faster than we would with just doing it the old way.

So why the colors? Since these are molds the colors do not matter and we use whatever we have available. All these molds are made out of PLA and the heat of the expanding foam while it does it's its chemical process will not be hot enough to affect the mold.

If you are interested in learning how to make molds like these to save you time I will be going over a tutorial in brush and mesh mixer on how to make them.

As for offering this cast we should be doing so very soon.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
