Covering the Basics - DungeonFab

A couple of updates to the tiles today!

First, this new instructional video! It's just a short video covering the basics of printing and using the tiles. A link to this has been added to the Instructional PDF at the end of the document.

Next, we've added a small STL file called the Mutli-Floor Brace. This part can be added over top of walls (just like doors and windows) to help brace the floor above it, and prevent it from sliding around too much.

The print guide has also been updated with extra settings that may need changed to get the tiles to fit.

All of the sets in the shop have been updated with these changes, as well as the Commercial Files post!

Hi Morgan! I'm currently not at home for a few days, otherwise I could offer some immediate help. You may have to join the Discord if you need some help sooner than that. There are some folks in there that may be able to help faster than I can. https://discord.gg/NrnYc8Gn Otherwise, I have a reminder to reach out when I'm back home and at my PC! We do also have tile/wall separators in with the STL files if you'd like to use those!

Ian Kolb

I'm having a dickens of a time getting the wall and half wall to fit into the floor slots. When I insert them more aggressively to make them fit, the tabs snap off. When I go to remove them the tbs snap off. I'm going to try using the blank walls to print in a different orientation, see if I can get that to work. Also, I need to learn how to use CAD to make a removal tool for the walls.

Morgan James

No problem!

Ian Kolb

Sweet thanks for the clarification

Jared Phelan

That's the Diagonal Dot Wall, meant for interior corners

Ian Kolb

What is the file being used at 4:05?

Jared Phelan

There is no Standard Wall - DOT file However, the "Half-Length" and "Half-Length - DOT" wall can be combined to fit the same form factor as what a Standard DOT Wall would be.

Ian Kolb

I could be blind, but I'm not seeing a "standard wall DOT" for any of the Blank, Stone, or Wood Files. I see a DOT file for Half-length and Diagonal, but no standard. Am I missing something?

Jared Phelan

Hi Kevin! That file is located in Stone Set\Details\Vertical The file is named "MutliLevel Clip.stl" If you have an older version of the tiles, you may need to go back to the store and download the newest version

Ian Kolb

Maybe i'm Blind but where can i find the "connectors" for the floors from the Clip at 5:08 ? (I have the Stone Pack)

Kevin McKenzie

Yes, i tried that on my Mars 4 Ultra, ofter Tuning in the Base layers in Chitubox it worked great for me!

Christian

I'll need you to email me at dungeonfabtiles@gmail.com so we can get those over to you for testing

Ian Kolb

that'd be much appreciated

skokilla

If oriented flat on the build plate, then they most likely will. If you'd like, we can send over a file to test with before you commit to purchasing anything.

Ian Kolb

just to clarify, will these also print without supports on SLA resin printers?

skokilla

Gotcha! This issue should be corrected soon!

Ian Kolb

On a closer look, I can see that you were right, the female connector on the base tiles has the top sagging a bit from the printing. Need to print it with supports for those and see how it goes. For now I've sanded them with a nail file and they lay flat! :)

Mario Grosu

Yeah, trimming those connectors should keep the same design but hopefully fix the bowing issue! And thank you! It's quite hard to get good quality that small on FDM machines, and it's led to some interesting ways to show detail. I truly appreciate the issues being brought to my attention. I want to improve the system, and add as much as possible so it's as versatile as possible. Thank you!

Ian Kolb

The feedback shouldn't take away from the really nice design you've got going on. I really like how the design of the sets are on a good spot between stylized and realistic. The versatility of the building system is the best I've seen so far, especially with the 1x1 tiles, inner walls and so forth. Thank you for the support in making this system better. :)

Mario Grosu

Gotcha. Let me try some things to see if I can get that warping resolved with the bases. If I can, there'll be another update post soon with the changes.

Ian Kolb

I'm using a BambuLab A1 mini to print these, with the general settings. I'm slicing the models in Orca Slicer. I don't know of any good "fix" for this case, just thought I should bring it up for visibility.

Mario Grosu

I've found the bowing stems from poor overhangs on the female connector of the tiles. The filament sags, puts pressure on the male connectors and angles the connection slightly. To remedy this, you may have to try Cura's "ChangeAtZ" plugin to make the printer move slower on the layer the overhangs are on, or you could try slicer-generated support. I'll see if I can work on a permanent fix by shaving a layer or two off of the top of the male connectors. If it sacrifices the integrity of the connectors, it may not be possible, though.

Ian Kolb

Yes, absolutely! As long as you've purchased the tiles, they will continue to be updated. We've already added the multi-floor brace after launch, as well as updated the print and instruction guides with them. Just keep an eye out for posts like these where set changes come through!

Ian Kolb

I answered my own question: I need to file down the connections to get a smoother fit as they are too tight straight from the printer. (which is a good thing - better too tight than too loose) This fine tuning makes the pieces more "relaxed" and they lay better on the table.

Mario Grosu

If the sets get an update, such as the stone set on June 20th, will I retroactively receive the updated content since I bought the set?

Mario Grosu

This is just what I was looking for. Very versatile! One hiccup is that the base floor tiles still bow even when connected on a flat table. (bought the stone set) I am also experimenting with scaling them up to 115% so that a miniature can fit within a 1x1 tile surrounded by walls.
