Chapter 191: The Mutated Misaka Clone

“What’s going on? Why has #9981’s power suddenly increased so much?”

Inside the experimental facility, the researchers monitoring the battle were dumbfounded.

This experiment was supposed to proceed like the previous 9,980 trials: #9981 would engage Accelerator and be killed shortly after the fight began.

However, just as they were preparing to dispatch other Misaka clones to retrieve the body and clean up the scene, #9981, who had been declared dead, suddenly revived. Moreover, her power had surged significantly.

According to their instruments, the burst of electricity she unleashed had reached the level of a Tier 4 esper.

“Could this be a mutation? Quick, halt today’s experiment immediately! Don’t let Accelerator kill her—bring her back for research to figure out what happened!”

The lab director’s voice was filled with excitement.

A clone evolving from Tier 2 to Tier 4 during combat could open the door to mass-producing Tier 4 espers.

Tier 2 espers weren’t very useful; their strength wasn’t much greater than that of an ordinary person with a firearm.

Tier 4 espers, on the other hand, were significantly more powerful, essentially impervious to threats from ordinary humans. If mass production were possible, it would revolutionize the world.

“#9981 isn’t responding and has destroyed her monitoring devices. We’ve lost her location,” one of the researchers reported anxiously.

The director’s expression changed.

“That’s impossible! How could this happen? Pull up all nearby surveillance footage—find her at all costs!”

Meanwhile, George utilized his exceptional physical abilities to quickly descend from the fifth floor of the abandoned building to the first floor. Once there, he used magnetism to destroy the monitoring device attached to his body.

He then cast a Disillusionment Charm to become invisible and escaped the building, leaving Accelerator, who had pursued him from the fifth floor, empty-handed.

Unfurling his wings, George flew to the rooftop of a nearby building. From there, he surveyed the bustling Academy City and began contemplating his next steps.

He was certain he had seen something like “Railgun” and the coin-throwing attack before, likely as the protagonist's signature ability in some anime.

But beyond vague memories, he had no clear recollection of the story—it wasn’t the type of media he consumed frequently.

Still, given that magic had existed in every world his avatars had visited so far, it was highly probable that this world also had magic.

Yet, the memories implanted in the Misaka clone’s mind contained no information about magic.

'Finding the protagonist seems like the best course of action for now. Observation might yield valuable insights,' George thought.

Since Misaka Mikoto was the protagonist of this world, the plot would naturally revolve around her. And since this body was a clone of Misaka Mikoto, finding her might provide some answers.

George often pondered the purpose of creating avatars in different worlds.

First, they served as extra lives. Even if his main body in the Marvel universe were to die, his consciousness could transfer to any active avatar, ensuring his survival—provided not all his avatars were destroyed simultaneously.

Still, avoiding death was preferable, especially for his main body in the Marvel universe.

Each time he created a new avatar, it split his soul. If his main body perished, leaving only a few surviving avatars, he might lose the ability to create new ones.

Second, every new avatar contributed to his overall strength. Each avatar’s abilities and attributes added up, collectively amplifying his power. The more avatars he created, the greater the enhancements.

For instance, his avatar in the Harry Potter world had gained wizarding blood, the one in Fairy Tail had enhanced magic and reflexes, the panda in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice world boosted physical strength and endurance, and now the Misaka clone had augmented his esper abilities.

Third, each avatar allowed him to acquire unique skills and powers from their respective worlds, which he could then integrate across worlds.

In Harry Potter’s world, his esper powers gave him an edge over other wizards. In Fairy Tail, he combined Harry Potter magic with esper abilities. Now, with this new world as a foundation, he had all these abilities at his disposal.

Fourth, every new body meant an additional mind for learning. If all his avatars focused on mastering the same skill, his efficiency would outpace anyone else’s by several times.

The primary goal of each new avatar, however, was to ensure its survival. If an avatar were to die, all efforts would be wasted.

Only after securing safety could he focus on extracting every resource and method to enhance his abilities, benefiting both his main body and other avatars.

At present, magic in this world remained elusive, but there was a wealth of information about esper abilities.

By this world’s standards, George’s current power level had reached Tier 4. However, he believed this was far from his limit.

The fusion of his esper abilities with the Misaka clone’s had yet to reach full potential. With further development, he might even achieve Tier 5.

Misaka Mikoto herself had reached Tier 5, gradually climbing from Tier 1 through training and development within Academy City.

For most people, their esper potential was fixed at the time of awakening. Training could unlock their maximum potential, but once reached, their level became static—whether it was Tier 3, Tier 4, or otherwise.

George, however, felt he hadn’t reached his limit. By interacting with Misaka Mikoto and learning from Academy City’s resources, he might push beyond Tier 4.

“Directional Spell—Misaka Mikoto!”

Using hand gestures, George cast a tracking spell. With golden arrows pointing the way, he spread his wings and began flying toward Misaka Mikoto’s location.

Since this world lacked wands, he still relied on hand gestures to cast magic from the Harry Potter universe.

“Once school starts, I need to find Professor Snape to master wandless, nonverbal casting,” he mused while flying.

Hand gestures were cumbersome; even with his incredible speed, each spell still took about two seconds. And it was rarely feasible to find suitable wand materials immediately upon entering a new world.

Nonetheless, wandless casting was a skill typically reserved for top-tier wizards. Even with his five brains learning in tandem, it would take significant effort to master.
