2024-07-04 23:31:02 +0000 UTCI laughed a bit but realized the severity of what really happened. I feel the tone was comedic in the moment it happened so the audience kept that tone later. The smile was briefly wiped off my face when hughie broke down. God that’s traumatic.

He was in his own head at that point in time; not paying attention at all to what Annie was saying. He just lost his dad, and he tried to jump straight back into work to keep his mind off of it only to be SA'd. That being said, I won't hold it against anyone who didn't catch it right from the get go. The Boys is know to play a lot of things for a joke, and Hughie is character known to play a lot of things for a joke too!

Some people will joke about their traumatic event right after or not long after I’ve had people in my life have a similar experience. If it was during the act with Ashley I think it was Hughie going along with it so he doesn’t get caught and blow his cover.

Us laughing thinking it's a comedy bit then realizing it's not because he was saying he's not ok and brought up his dad. That's when it hit us that it's not a comedy bit. Which you see us immediately recognized. Entertainment is subjective and it's important to keep that in mind.

Like he seemed as if nothing happened after his dad died when starlight told him to take a break, but him technically being “r*ped” by Tek Knight affected him a lot differently and pretty much broke him and it all hit him at once much later.
